Great ideas! A suggestion for making the outlet protector more efficient add a lower lip and the top will be able to hold something -- a note pad perhaps. Drill a few holes and you can store a couple of pencils for quick notes.

If the clear PVC is too expensive, I think you could use the clear tubing I’ve seen at our agricultural supply store. It’s like air tubing for an aquarium on steroids. It’s flexible unlike PVC, but at such short lengths it should still work. I love all the different holders you’ve come up with. It makes me want to do a French cleat wall in my craft room for my craft supplies.

We just moved into our new house which is blessed with a full basement and exposed studs. The basement is my "man cave" for restoring old and/or broken tools and doing some woodwork. I am inspired by your ideas. I will make a cleat for my soldering gun using #20. But will design it to turn the gun away from the cord to avoid damaging the cord should the gun still be warm when putting it in the cleat. Keep up the great work!

You're videos are superb, Ô great Teacher! One mistake I made when I began making french cleats was to use a full length cleat behind each and every little module I made. I just never gave it a second thought, I guess! :( Save wood *and* money by making narrow strips : one on each side edge of your cubbie/rack/shelf. Just thought it would be nice to share this tip with other beginners. :)

Hi Clinton, I LOVE FRENCH CLEATS. As I grow MUCH OLDER 👴 it get harder and harder to be picking stuff up from the floor or lower shelves. So a French Cleat is actually a life saver. Re.: #4 Your A/C outlet cover. I made that myself. The original problem was that the kids and shop visitors would use the cover as a note desk. That additional weight would snap the cleat or merely knock it off. Another object to the floor. So I made a MINOR adjustment. Instead of a wooden top, I removed the wood for a thick piece (two 1/2 inch) clear Lexan. Now we can see through the top for ease of plug swaps. And no one uses the cover as a writing desk. Next, all of my traveling units, and my sandpaper shelving unit, all have a hand hold, i.e. cut out pull, for ease of access. Lastly, in the past I made four of your spray paint can holders. After watching your first French Cleat episode I attached my hand hold pull to the top with your French Cleat. Great match. I can hang my paint cans, and additional spray paint tools, near my paint box and move it outside at will. My weekend project this week will be more wall cleats near the two people doors & around the empty space adjacent to the garage doors to the building corners. For you ax and garden tool (shovel) cleats. GREAT JOB. ~Jim

On the outlet protector, depending on where the outlet is: adding a slight lip to the bottom of the front and you’ve got a nice notepad or small tablet holder
@WizofOz652 жыл бұрын
Should extend the front of your tape holder forward with some wood to hold the open end of each tape for easy use and add a hack saw blade across the entire front edge for cutting the tape

I put french cleats in my shop here in the UK, I like that your ideas are simple and straightforward but get the job done. I have my wall outlets like yours but here in the Uk our plugs are flat with the cord coming out the bottom so we do not have any issues with having to protect them. They also have a switch and a built in fuse which is fused lower than the main circuit so if a tool malfunctions it trips an RCD on the main panel which is just reset but blows the fuse in the plug so that tool does not work again and will not interfere with the rest of the shop. I like your idea to protect your outlet though cool!!

The saw blade holder seems like it’s a cut hand waiting to happen. I would play around with recessing the blades or finding something protective.

@SpecificLove74 жыл бұрын
The distance depends on your preferences and the size of your wall. Just keep in mind that if they are too close, it might be hard to attach and remove the cleats. Also make sure each wall cleat has enough surface touching the wall, and each are well secured with long screws into the studs.
