As far as my favorite dry downs, I'd have to say Fields of Rubus by Kerosene is definitely one of them. It's a beautiful combination of blackberry with patchouli. It starts of very blackberry forward but then the patchouli comes up as it dries and the berry notes bring out this gorgeous fruity side of patchouli I've never experienced before. It's so hard to tell where the berries end and the patchouli begins, if that makes sense. It's like they melded together into this one juicy and fruity, yet dark and earthy scent. It's so good.
@regismonkton Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recommendation. I've heard that patchouli can be refined in such a way that it can smell something like blueberries.

My absolute favourite dry down fragrance is Givenchy's Amarige. I remember the first time I came across it, years ago. I was flipping through a magazine and I could feel the scent from a sample attached to the ad. I was sold. I love every part of the fragrance but the very last, last note, you know the one that is trapped in the dry nozzle, is unmatched. If anyone has any ideas as to what this note is or if there are any fragrances that smell similar I would be forever grateful!
@regismonkton Жыл бұрын
One of my favorite dry downs is the dry down of Source Adage "Monto'ac". Its dry down has caused me to realize that I love the combination of: oakmoss, vetiver, tobacco, native green grape, and sage. However, I don't think highly of its opening, which can last for at least an hour. Once it settles down, though, it proves to be one of my favorite fragrances. Vetiver is not listed as a note for it, but I definitely detect it in it.

Kayali Vanilla Royale. Beautiful sexy complex scent for a good price 🙌 The opening grew on me but that dry down is addictive. Rum, sugared patchouli, leather, and vanilla bomb. Must have for winter. Yes and yes to Herod, Rouge Saray, and Jardin de Misfah- all three are gorgeous all the way through. I have run into quite a few with fabulous openings but dry downs I don't like. E.g. Vibrato and Fico d'Amalfi. I drool over the openings but just can't deal with something in the dry downs.

Woow great list! I love almost all, I'm more inclined to base notes, but there are openings that for me are pure magic, like Aventus or Eau Sauvage. Raw gold in the dry down, smells at least to me, like an dry empty glass of bourbon, I like it more and more with every wear but still not a love. I would add HDP 1740 and Fidelis, Orto Parisi Cuoium, Rosendo Mateu No. 5, Montale Dark Vanilla, Lita, Stephane Humbert Lucas Mamba, Soleil de Jeddah and Mortal skin, Tobacco Oud, LV Omre Nomade and Noveau Monde, YSL Vinyle among others. Thanks for the list Sebastian!!!

For me, the dry down is more important than the opening, since that’s the longest-lasting part of a fragrance. Off the top of my head, I tolerate the opening of Sintra and Musc Ravageur to get to the drydown.
@originalboxelder Жыл бұрын
My favourite dry down is Rhinoceros 2020, it starts out like a zoo but the dry down is this long trail of spice and whiskey, almost dusty with just a touch of patchouli. It’s a bit salty and animalic too so it seems to blend right in to my skin. I think it’s pretty sexy in a rugged manly way, and it last all day. Also try Naxos with leatherize! I was kinda bored of it but Leatherize solved that problem.

The top is great to capture your attention but the most important is the drydown. There are some that are amazing in the opening and get boring as it dries down and some are boring in the opening and dry down great. That's why I always try before I buy. A couple for me that are great from start to finish are The Harmonist Magnetic Wood, Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede, Maison Crivelli Iris Malikhan, Dior Homme Intense, Les Histoires Des Parfums 1740 Marquis De Sade, D&G The One EDP to name but a few.

Sebastian, I think that out of the hundreds of your uploads, this one best reflects what I could call the highly regarded "mainstream" classics. I would personally say that Coromandel, POAL, BR540 XdP, Naxos, Fille en Aiguilles, Herod, Noir and Noir, Heritage EdT, DHP, Hacivat and Psychedelique are very strong candidates for the best fragrance that ever came out of Chanel, Malle, MFK, Xerjoff, Lutens, PdM, Tom Ford, Guerlain, Dior, Nishane, and Jovoy respectively. I had a hard time adding to the list, but many other ambers and patchoulis have amazing drydowns - particularly LDDM, LIDGE, and Borneo 1834. The drydown of Beau de Jour also sets it apart from other fougeres for me

@@ThePerfumeGuy They drastically reformulated *everything* about a decade ago, so I don't think so, unless you find it on discount websites like where I found mine. Ernest Daltroff made it for his mistress Félice Vanpouille (who was "creative director" of Caron at their heyday) to wear at the lavish Christmas parties in the late 20s. It was the first featuring the mousse de saxe ("saxon moss") accord including licorice (aniseed, I'm sure) and iodine. Old-fashioned for sure, but so impossibility rich in it's dry down and it just keeps getting richer and richer.

I'm a fan of "levels," of depth and nuance and "development" through the day, of new impressions coming to me even after hours wearing something. Yes, of course, If a fragrance is amazingly good straight out of the bottle, then sure, even if it's unwaveringly linear I'm gonna enjoy it all day, but still with a certain subtle pining for "something else" to happen. No matter how good the fragrance is, if nothing else "happens" over the next 5-6 hours, I can't shake the feeling "Is that all there is?" Fragrances that I THINK (as much as I can recall) I've found to develop enchantingly during the day are for instance Eau Sauvage Parfum, Encre Noire Sport (definitely), Oriza L LeGrand Chypre Mousse, Jubilation XXV, and, yes, Guerlain Heritage! Then there's the almost supernatural Beach Hut Man. On the other end of the spectrum, a fragrance that is so rigidly unchanging all day long I finally couldn't wear it, is CdG Wonderwood: wonderfully enchanting for the first few minutes but by the end of the day you're just screaming to escape from the cedar closet.

Got a decant of Misfah coming in. So many wonderful scents here Sebastian. Incidentally, I've never really been a fan of the drydown of the newest Eau de Rochas. Boring as can be after that explosion of citrus sunshine. On the other hand, the entire life of 811 Absoluto from GA is fantastic. Wore some last night and each time I do, it reminds me more and more of PdM's Carlisle. But better. And with honey. 🍯🤤 Mmmmmmm

I was finally just able to get a sample of Jardins de Misfah, and I think the almond note in it is just a little bit too bitter for me. Almost like you put too much almond extract in a dessert. Unfortunate. Really thought I was going to love it.
