Don’t say “NFL history” if you aren’t going to include anything before 2000. Some of the nastiest hitters of all time played back before 2000 and the rules hadn’t been changed then. Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, John Lynch, Lawrence Taylor, Jack Tatum, and the list goes on. All had some extremely nasty hits on a regular basis. Look at Steve Atwater’s hit on Christian Okoye sometime. He was the biggest thing since sliced bread up until that game and was never the same runner after that hit. And it was straight-up clean.
@joshuacaldwell72874 ай бұрын
Damn right. All you have to do is watch the beginning of "THE BLINDSIDE" to see how one hit by Lawrence Taylor changed the game. If you want to see ONE OF THE BEST at avoiding tackles watch Barry Sanders.

I feel at this point, pro leagues like the NFL will have to have their players sign a death waiver, if not already. Cause, sports like these will put you 6 ft under, literally. If not today, it will someday. Just like real soldiers on the battlefield. As entertaining as it is to watch, it's still can be life and death out in the field for these players. In the end, we should have some respect those players all for just to entertain and pleasing us.

You're not wrong. There is a great of recency bias here. But, and this is a big but, the video for the Chuck Bednarik hit on Frank Gifford or the Jack Tatum hit on Darryl Stingley is either non-existent or is of very poor quality (compared to the digital video of the last couple of decades). I can see why they would indulge in that sort of recency bias

No nowadays these hits would be flagged, but don't take away from Sean Taylor"s hit which was in 2007 the same year he was killed. Or any of his hits he could of been the the best Safety the game ever saw if not for being Murdered.

It's absurd to say these are the most brutal hits in NFL history and not mention the hit that paralyzed Darryl Stingley in 1978. Jack Tatum's hit on him was brutal, as was typical of Tatum. Or even Jack Tatum's hit on Sammy White in the Super Bowl, widely considered the most brutal hit in Super Bowl history. Absurd that neither is mentioned here. It's like the league's only existed for 20 years.

Jeff Heath was a player. Dude was going for the ball btw not trying to KO the wide out. Vontaze Burfict should have been booted from the league long before he ABSOLUTELY scrambled Antonio Brown's brain and arguably ruined not only his career but his life as well. And Damar Hamlin wasn't hit that hard. Just timing.
