Hi vorong, yes Penelope is very disappointing for me. I was too afraid to prune her hard in this first, this time I’ll cut her back further. I’m more drawn to many of the newer recently purchased roses than to give her much attention.

2:07 Spirit of Freedom? Extra beautiful form, nicely quartered. I am intrigued to grow it. I am infatuated with 2 qualities in roses, 1st is fragrance strong, old rose scent, second is form, old romantic, Victorian era cabbage rose form, deeply cupped, it doesn't get any better than that. I had no premeditated plan to be a rose grower, but once drawn in, it is intoxicatingly beautiful. I have no intention to have a lot of roses, just the best roses, and the number increases year by year😊😊 3:52 Yes, I would classify it as a floribunda, no long stemmed single blossom per stem like a hybrid tea. Although, going back to the very beginnings of hybrid tea, they were so named not for a particular form, but because the scent was deemed to be similar to black fermented dried tea leaves. 13:15 Penelope Lively, that gorgeous old, romantic, Victorian cabbage form that I adore. 14:15 It is good to know if a rose plant has lax canes, because such roses must be elevated in a pot or such to bring them up to eye level. I doo love nodding roses, but I would not want ALL roses to be nodding. 14:44 A very neat and tidy arrangement that you have for most of your roses. 14:52 Lady Gardener has very much the same golden glow center as Eustacia Vye, a rose strongly saturated with the finest perfume. 16:00 Lovely quartered form and lovely, clean, pure cadmium yellow. Thank you for sharing your observations, you are a greater assist in deciding what to grow than the rose sellers catalogs. Ralph in Ohio. Tomorrow night, part 2.

Absolutely stunning roses, Ken!! Can you share your tips to growing roses successfully in containers? What size are the containers? Thank you!
@kenvoong59772 ай бұрын
@@bellarosa009 Hi Bella, yes I have many of my roses in containers, of course having them in containers isn’t the best option. My tips for growing roses in containers is most importantly is that your container must be over 55cm and fairly deep, and as with all roses they need to be fertilised twice a year. I tend to liquid feed my potted roses once every two weeks. Having a watering routine is also important when the weather is hot and likely to dry out. So I water my containers roses every couple of days in the summer. What you should bear in mind is that most roses grown in a container will never be as bushy if they were in the ground, so knowing how tall they might grow is important. Bigger and taller varieties can only be in the container for 3-4 year and eventually will need to move to the ground. My experience with roses in a pot compared to ones in the ground I find the ones in containers thrives better probably because they get more attention from myself. So having roses in containers isn’t always a bad thing so long as they are looked after. Good luck

Hello Ken, it must be difficult to put the roses in ranking, they are all beautiful and for sure their scents varies. I sometimes cut some roses and put in a room to know how strong the scent after 6 hours or a day. I’m curious which rose is your number one in terms of scent. Thanks for this interesting video!🌹🌹🌹
@kenvoong59777 ай бұрын
Hi Gemma, yes ranking roses in term of scent is challenging. With each individual of us having different sense of smell is personal. 1,2 and 3 was pretty easy as I knew which one was my favourite, but the rest was certainly difficult. This was Where struggle to decide on the last few. So I had to compromise and came up with a result.

Beautiful roses especially liked the hue of Lady Gardener. I could swear I caught the fragrance in the air! But ...I could Hardy believe it to hear that Bathsheba and Gabriel Oak are indeed side by side, so Far From The Madding Crowd, that must be Heaven Scent? Sorry Ken, you are strictly forbidden to obtain any roses with monikers such as Troy Boy or Sergeant Sneaker, etcetera. 🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🥰🥰

Ah.... forgive me Ken, if my response caused problems..... That Penelope Lively is sad. It has such pretty flowers, but what's going on with it. You are not the only one with this problem.
