Her mom was a gaslighting, super toxic, abuser!! My grandmother was an actress with MGM at that time and was friends with Judy. Her mother was always telling her how fat she was, and how other actresses were better and prettier than her, and how no one would come see anything she was in if she didn’t lose weight and work on her looks. They used to put these things inside her nose to turn it up so she would look more attractive. Judy was in the cafeteria on the studio lot with my gram and some other younger actors (they all had the same required dance and voice classes together) just eating and hanging out. Her mom came in with a handful of pills, took the steak and fries that she was eating, put a bowl of broth and a glass of water in front of her. Made her take all the pills, and told her that she had to eat nothing but broth for the week and take her pills every day or Louie B. Mayer would put her on probation which included taking her pay, putting her on an extremely strict diet, and making her stay, for a week, in a room that was on the lot with no contact with friends or family until she complied. That’s no joke! The two of them (her mom and Mr. Mayer) had compete control over her and her mother worked her to death so she could keep control of her and take her money!! That poor girl was turned into an addict and had to deal with a lot of mental health issues because of her mother!

Garland DID NOT willing take those drugs. She was berated by Studio heads and called FAT TO HER FACE! The Studio FORCED her on the drugs. Not only to slim down but to endure the grueling filming schedule. She was still a child and NO ONE protected her. The ADULTS are to blame for her addiction. Edit And she passed her addiction on to Liza. So sad. Both immensely talented women!

Judy was very, very talented she was a damn good singer . Studios were narrow-minded. Not all women were meant to be sex symbols, and I am not saying Judy was unattractive, but she could dance sing and act. I agree that her mother failed her. No wonder Shirley Temple left Hollywood while she was still young, although her career watered down once America recovered from the Great Depression.

Even though Judy Garland struggled with drug addiction for the majority of her very precious life, she did not die from an actual drug overdose at 47. The medical examiner in England who performed Garland's autopsy did an extensive toxicology analysis and it was discovered that there was not enough meds in Garland's system to cause an overdose. There was not enough meds to barely qualify for theraputic levels in Garland's system. In a nutshell, Judy Garland died from her body giving out from the longterm effects of the drug abuse and not from a drug overdose. RIP Judy Garland

Yes but you're failing to realize she was put on these drugs as a child that is when they got her addicted to among other things what today we would call meth (I'm using that because voice to text won't allow me to say or to wait for me for right word I can't write my hands don't work) specifically but when that wouldn't allow her to sleep after a while they gave her drugs to help her to I got to a point that just like the Germans in not to Europe she became addicted to the drug she was given as a child by the adults around her were supposed to be protecting.

I'm surprised there was no mention of the Chappaquidick Incident involving Ted Kennedy and a young gal who had attended a party that Senator Kennedy was at in 1969! The incident took the life of the young lady after Kennedy's car left the road and ended up in a body of water! There was a scandal but no charges were ever laid towards Kennedy who was driving under the influence of alcohol! This is the gist, I may have gotten a couple of things wrong or mixed up! Also I was surprised the drowning of Natalie Wood wasn't mentioned! For many years, Wood's husband from 1972 until her death in 1981, famous actor Robert Wagner, was believed to have pushed her off a boat leading to her drowning but nothing came of it because of lack of evidence and maybe because he was famous, even though there were witnesses who heard them argue, the captain of the yacht, and a couple on another boat heard her screams for help! Then there is the scandal involving Roman Polanski who fled to Europe after being accused and charged with sexual abuse to a 13-year old gal. He plead guilty to a lesser charge but after hearing that the judge was not going to accept his plea deal and give him prison time, that's when he left the US and fled to Europe! This is the director who was married to the late Sharon Tate who was murdered along with a group of friends by Charles Manson's cronies!

When we get to the dark side of politics, then you can comment on this essay. Ted Kennedy was not a Hollywood star. You mentioned Natalie Wood it was widely accepted accidentally at that time. Here's some mystery who killed William Desmond Taylor Marilyn Monroe suicide or murder who killed Bob Crane. Why did Gig Young did a murder suicide ? Why was John Lennon shot by a "fan" or FBI cover-up? Why did Cappucine kill herself? Why did Princess Grace die, or did she suffer a stroke along with a rebellious daughter? Did Lana Turner's daughter kill her mobster boyfriend

How come J.Edgar Hoover was the longest FBI leader. Why did we bomb Japan, and in the USA, Japanese Americans were placed in concentration camps. The mob influence on politics. 911, how come no real photo of the planes hit the Pentagon. Why did Tower 7 go down when nothing hit it. Was the Vietnam War necessary ? Where is Amelia Earhart? Studios like MGM had “fixers” to keep things under wraps. There were Hedda Hopper, Walter Winchell, Louella Parsons, and other gossip columnists. Sometimes studio publicists traded juicy items on an unruly actor to protect another star. It also didn’t hurt a career to stay on the good side of the columnists. People just had to wait for the entertainment section of the newspapers, trades, or fan magazines to come out. It was there, just slower.

Used to be in several southern states 13 with parental consent was legal for marriage. Lewis's career really wasn't hurt that badly and Great Balls o' Fire is still his biggest,most memorable hit. Coogan 's law covered the earnings for the work done. Marian Ross, the Mom on Happy Days, went after and won monies made from royalties of the work that was done by the actors. Royalties became part of contract. Just in time, Carrie Fisher was offered 50K or 1/2 of 1% of all future revenue from the Star Wars franchise. She took the percent and never had to work again.

Wait wait wait just a minute! Judy Garland did not just "succumb" to pill addiction. Long before The Wizard of Oz, MGM already had her on a grueling schedule with the Andy Hardy series featuring her and Mickey Rooney. It was during this time that the MGM studio physicians put her on prescription stimulants to keep her energized and focused during her long work days and depressants to make her sleep until she had to awake and do it all over again. Judy was a CHILD when this happened to her and had no say or choice in the matter. She was contractually obligated to the studio, and a minor. It was here, at the hands of Louis B. Mayer, the man who created "Judy Garland" out of Frances "Baby" Gumm, his "little hunchback", where her struggles with substance use began. It was inflicted upon her as a term of her employment. Judy never stood a chance against what was done to her and please do not make the mistake of characterizing her addiction as a choice, nor anyone else's.

But Mayer putting the word "little" in front of the insult doesn't make it not an insult. He was still calling her a hunchback. And she was still just a little girl.

On the bright side I think it was supposedly buster Keaton I'm not sure but I think it was he who in fact took care of mr. Arbuckle he gave him a place to live he gave the money he literally looked after him because he remembered when he was an up-and-coming actor, after it was Fatty Arbuckle who was kind to him and often times took him him under his wing and protected him and he never forgot it, it was because of Buster Keaton. He started to make a come back he was supposed to do a big movie and certainly die before he could do it. @@shirleytyler-szkolny6981 yep in a manner of speaking yep, in fact from one of the mothers try to claim her child and that would have been Christine and by the way some say he paid the woman off others say she made her disappear disappear part is correct because he never came back even though she'd badly wanted Christine. They were Hollywood actresses who saw the incident in question and ask her about it and she immediately changed the subject and basically the quote one of them you can't couldn't get her to talk about what was going on that one minute the woman relieve demanded her daughter back and said that she wanted her back in that given the right taking her and this has been witnessed by one of her actress friends who stopped being her friend because she suspected that she had stolen Christine and they saw how she treated her which was fireworks after the incident in question. I've always wondered why Christine herself considering her book came out in the late 70s early 80s didn't bother to do a DNA test then that became available and find out who her mother was and where she came from but like I said Joan Crawford with a baby Snatcher. Do a lot of celebrities who legally adopted children and it was well-known how they went about doing that but not Joan Crawford and her lawyers in fact when the movie got a little too close to the truth that movie too was squashed. But a lot of the Hollywood celebs knew about Joan Crawford and you about her illegal adoption. One was actually asked if he thought it was illegal that she kidnapped her kids and their reply was it's questionable back in the thirties when these adoptions were taking place thirties and forties the husband have the right to do whatever he wanted Sosa husband gave permission but the wife did not even though California would have put that as a questionable adoption if you had enough money you could squash it.

Joan Crawford was not a child stealer. I don’t think she was all that loving a mother. She had a hard scrabble life & had been on her own since her early teens. She used what she had to get ahead, didn’t fall down the drinking or drug rabbit holes. Joan was sexual for sure & used it to her advantage & good for her. I don’t think she was too kind to the older two children & leaving them out of her will was harsh & spiteful. Arguing any point about her on this thread is useless. There are a couple of very good bios on her read one of them & get a more accurate picture of who she was.

Arbuckle was falsely accused of a terrible crime. An ambitious & dishonest DA & a woman willing to perjure herself for money invented depraved & brutal ‘details’ which were said to be reflected in the actor’s appearance. He was eventually cleared, but, long before that happened, the grotesque descriptions of him as a monster & hulking beast caused Paramount Studios to disassociate themselves from him - in effect it was like modern cancel culture on steroids, but with the added horror that Arbuckle could have gone to prison forever if the frame up had succeeded. Though vindicated in court, Arbuckle was blacklisted by all the studios & it was a long time before he could even work behind the camera using another name. The court cases ruined him financially, professionally & emotionally.

@@phantomstrangermedia It was a scandal that played out in real time. The newspapers filled their front pages with lurid descriptions of Roscoe’s wild party. It must have brought excitement & a disapproving clicking of the tongue to many a reader. He was tried & convicted in the daily paper & no acquittal would change their minds as to his degenerative character. As stated the studio could have shut all this down & choose not to. Not everyone believed that silly stupid woman. The juries sure didn’t.

Paula negri again I need your voice to text this is not something to write things correctly not even name so please bear that in mind when you read this I'm handicap and this is the only tool I can use. Miss negri claim and may have actually been originated with the Hollywood system in the bosses of the Studio may not have wanted it to come out that Rudolph Valentino was actually gay. Far better to take a Starlit like Negron allow her to say that she was his fiance make very well within truth and it may have been arranged by the studio because she was his beard. It also might explain some things about how she died and we will leave it there.😊

It’s been proven that in recent times that Valentino was not gay. That lie came out in the 1970’s. About 50 years after his death. As for Negri all she wanted was to be in the limelight at Valentinos funeral. She probably lied about being engaged to him because not long after she got married
@safiremorningstar
@safiremorningstar Жыл бұрын
@@christinetitus6388 more than likely he might’ve been by, but based on certain factors and certain people he was known to hang out with, and it was one of the reasons that people thought he was gay. Me personally I don’t think that, he had a lot of women hanging off of him, but we know from people like Matt Bomer that you don’t wanna lose your job you pretend to be straight and you have all these pretty beards hanging off of you and if you do it right people believe you’re not gay. Some of the people he hung with and I mean guys by the way we’re known to be gay but then again, some of the women he hung out with we’re known to be vamps I mean they were known to be very straight, so maybe he was by the truth is he isn’t alive to tell the tale and Negrete was there to make sure his mystique as the Hollywood execs would put it didn’t get tarnished because they had a few movies, one of which he just completed that they would not have been able to sell otherwise. by the way, I’m using voice to text and it writes things as it wants and I cannot fix it and the reason I’m saying he could very well be by even the gay for all we know is because just because a man has children or has had a woman in his life does not necessarily mean he was not gay, I say this because of the fact that back in the battle all days before you could be openly gay and there were a few exceptions by the way, one in particular, I can think of is it became known you were gay you lost your job it was in the morality clause that all actors have to sign and I can think of like I said a few that had beards. And at least three actors to the present day had children who came from the period of the 60s up to the 1960s I should say who had children and relations with women in order to cover up the fact that they were gay. I still wonder because it says that David Ogden Stiers I hope I got the first name correct by the way I have problems remembering things it says that he had one child in a previous liaison back in the 60s, he would’ve needed to if he wanted to keep from being found out he would have needed at least one relation of the opposite sex so that if he was ever caught or if somebody ever accused him of being gay, he would have a way of countering that as somebody who is ace I can tell you that they were constantly trying to get you to take off a box. You read the one thing or the other and I haven’t help you if you mark down that you were gay if anybody found out you were gay, you could lose your job. You could be blacklisted immediately if you were an actor and if you were anything else, you would certainly lose your job it would always be an excuse for why you lost your job. Hollywood had a habit of if the actor was very popular of giving him a beard. It was usually one of their actresses if she was pregnant at the time that was perfect. Why, because then how could you say that the guy is gay? He’s got a wife and a kid, so like I said, he may have had some lady friends if you wanna call it that, but he was known to traveling in a manner of speaking in the circles of certain gay known gay actors that doesn’t necessarily make him gay like I said, but it does bring up a lot of questions, especially why did the Hollywood execs go along with the whole Negri being his fiancé think about that for a minute there’s only a need for that if there were suspicions, he might’ve only been friends with those actors, but that would not have mattered as far as public was concerned, and one thing you can say about Hollywood they don’t like scandals at least not back then. They didn’t even like hint of a scandal either.

RE: Jerry Lee Lewis. Many would be surprised to learn the age at which some young children are allowed to marry with parental consent; some states don’t even have a minimum age, which is absolutely disgusting and bonkers. People would be shocked by the number of states where it’s completely legal for first cousins to marry (and West Virginia is not on the list, which may be a surprise). The final shock would be to learn when states enacted the legislation. People in the US like to attack Muslims for not discouraging child marriages (much like all religions, this occurs within fundamentalist sects. It isn’t a widely accepted practice), when states across the Bible Belt (and outside of it) allow the same.
