A lot of people debate over Thor's death, and whether him surviving would have meant anything given how strong Odin supposedly is. In truth, I think some part of Odin knew Thor could beat him in a fight, because throughout the entire game, Thor is consistently treated as a darker equal to Kratos. And Kratos beat Odin, albeit with assistance. The only reason Thor died when he did was because Gungnir is enchanted to always land a killing blow. Odin recognized his weapon was no longer of use to him and decided to break it before it decided to break him, as it were.

@@sassyimpsMaybe, but it might just not be a thing in GoW, especially since I'm pretty sure Odin's spear is also supposed to always hit it's target, yet Kratos can dodge it, although maybe Kratos can just dodge it anyway, he is built different.

@@edwardarroyo884 No, they've followed the Norse mythology pretty accurately in terms of mythical weapons/armor (Draupnir and such), so Gungnir should always land a killing blow. Kratos is just built different.

@@mbazokaI mean there is nothing in game to indicate it works the same way, but I wouldn't doubt it. Especially since Kratos shrugs off death easily, hell in GoW 1 he was supposed to die from sleeping with the sisters in his cabin because they had a curse that killed people if they slept with them. He didn't even know about the curse until afterwards and they were surprised he lived, but were happy about it. He tanks death manipulation, same as in GoW 3, the Styx kills any who drink from it instantly, yet he swam in it for a while and only got depowered instead of instantly dying.

Thor did not deserve to go out that way only thing that can be said for odin is he didn't stab him in the back but up until the end all he did was make excuses and blame others despite how thor was described as in the first game it seems in Ragnarok he was trying to change himself because his actions up to that point had only resulted in the death of his sons an when he stopped listening to Odin was the moment Odin knew he either had to kill him or he'd probably kill him
