Nice! I know a guy here in North Carolina that has a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro in Lunar Rock with a 6-speed manual that has been converted to an undercover emergency response vehicle. Looks like a mall crawler but it has a magnuson supercharger and re-geared differentials to make up for the larger tires and increased horsepower.

That Altima has so much tint and no intersection lighting at all - I doubt any of the cross traffic could even have figured out it was a police car. Not to mention the siren speaker was hidden behind the grille and wasn't the loudest.

There is a nationwide need for a beacon system where as when an emergency vehicle activates lights, an infrared signal is also being flashed, and seen by an eye at controlled intersections to change the light to green for the approaching vehicle. There are several things at play. Stupid drivers sitting there stopped, and refusing to move for the approaching siren and lights. Drivers that are afraid to go through. Those that do not hear the sirens, and these horrible LEDS do not grad your attention the way the halogen rotating beams did. So unless you're looking right at the vehicle, you won't notice the lights. Same problem with the Xenon strobe tubes. Also it will stop traffic in the opposite direction, so that if working properly, it is safe for the emergency car to go through. Of course there's always the chance that someone will discover the code and modify their TV remote, but it's highly unlikely.

I get this kind of comment a lot. But you have to put this into consideration. They need arrest teams, rear containment and other side containment, officers on lethal and less lethal options, crisis negotiators, snipers, officers for the command post, backup officers to rotate positions, traffic control, medics, and way more. This requires a lot of personal for those positions and that is why there are such big responses.

Dude, it took so long for people to clear for that undercover Altima. I'm not sure if it boils down to people not understanding it was a police vehicle and just thinking it was another crazy Altima, or just the sheer stupidity of drivers. Unmarked cars have minimal lighting for a reason. They're used for surveillance and not for everyday enforcement. Here in Las Vegas, we have unmarked/undercover cars of all makes, models, and years. Some even have out of state license plates. The minimum is to have corner strobe lights in the front and back and a red/blue light facing the front. Don't be surprised to see ride share signs in the front window. That is a popular distraction technique.

I get that the bearcats are surplussed out military vehicles, but why are they still camouflaged? All those bright flashing lights kind of defeats the purpose. It's rare the SWAT team gets called into something it needs to be covert about, at least as far as responding to the scene. Like that barricaded suspect knew every cop around was on their way to come see him.
