Drivers or Filipinos in general. are known to be friendly.. but SHY. we're not usually the ones to start the conversation, but when you talk to us, you won't be snubbed. we are ready to answer questions. and one more thing, maybe because Filipinos also avoid talking to foreigners because we might get feel embarrassed. but if you try maybe you will know that Filipinos never run out of stories.

We filipinos don't use knives because we are not used to use one its as simple as that and in a typical household we do not use knives since we eat with kids and it does not make sense to give a child a knife as they might hurt themselves since most family are large and parents cannot manage everybody at the same time

For historical context, which you may do further research on. Our Spanish colonizers forbade It's use during public government functions wherein invited Filipino guests where only given spoons, and forks for security reasons. It's also the reason why they were required to wear barongs with translucent to almost transparent fabrics, so any weapon tucked in the waist can easily be seen by the Spanish guards. Now, I have no idea why this oppressive tradition continues up to this day, regardless if there are kids eating, or not.

The practice of placing a towel under the back of the shirt is usually done to kids especially when they are playing and get very sweat, so the towel helps absorb the sweat and keep the shirt from getting drenched and end up drying out on the child's back and result in his getting sick with colds or worse pneumonia.

This is in the Sequence of service of our standard of operations procedures in all restaurants, whether high end hotels or public area restaurants. we make sure that you eat well or that you are about to finish what you eat at the table then we deliver your bill to the table sometimes we still wait for the waiters to call us if you want to bill out. Hi Ovela! About the following i'd like to share some thoughts. 1. Frequent brown out in the province. The provinces especially the small ones are mostly served by the electric cooperatives because big electric company doesn't have a franchise to operate or not interested in doing business.hence they have limited resources to do transact busin3ss contract to secure supplies of electrocity that can leverage an abundant supplies. Also since these are cooperatives they have limited resourc3s to buy enough spare parts in case of teoubles on their equipments. 2. Regarding a towel often use by the people especially men. We use it to wipe our body when we perspires. 3. About the grab drivers who are serious drivers or some individuals that does not bothers to talk to their customers. I think these are some of the business values that the Filipinos try to adopt similar to the west. 4. Filipinos do slow walking. I think this is part of the culture of walking relax especially walking with someone. The purpose is to established good relational connections with someone for a much better understanding and establishing a good relationships.

Here is my take on some of your observations, Ovela! The towel under the shirt on the back of the neck helps with air circulation between the shirt and skin, and as a sponge for sweating. This act becomes second nature to men whose jobs require them to get exposed to high temperature. Scooters (used ones) started coming in in the late 80s and folks of "lesser means" gobbled them up as an easy and fast way to move around for several reasons. Scooter business never looked back after that. I must add, in the Philippines you run a higher risk of getting ran over by vehicles when you cross the street because there is no such thing as vehicles giving way to pedestrians (It's literally a cat and mouse game out there). Power outages are a minor annoyance in the country. You grow old with it and accept it as it is after some time. Filipinos typically leave strangers alone. They will look at you with curious eyes but say nothing. But just say one nice word and see what happens. They will respond with a welcoming smile and you will have opened the doors to the vaunted Filipino hospitality. Well, the three oft-used English words are tame words. Can't say the same of the most used conversational words and phrases in North America. Lol! This is getting too long...But hey, I'm surprised you didn't notice people using umbrellas to shield them from the scorching sun. Have they dropped that practice? It's been years since I've gone there.

Hi Ovela, a towel at the back (in most men) is to absorb sweat and avoid it from drying. This also shows that these men do have a loving partner or wife who takes care of them and always remind them to keep their back dry. Since is hot outside and as you've said Pinoys are hardworking, imaging working 8hrs or more outdoor under the scourging heat, thus small fan is very convenient to keep you cool 🙂So stay cool and excellent observations...well said buddy

That’s mostly the case. Unless the passenger initiate the conversation, drivers will just do their thing. They’re supposed to concentrate on their driving. Same with how friendly the people are on the streets or inside the mall and stores. If the foreigner is showing enthusiasm, initiating hi’s and hello’s then the public will respond as well. It really depends on your persona, if you’re also approachable and you look amicable, Filipinos can feel that. It worked well with most foreign vloggers who eventually stayed in the Philippines for years like his fellow Canadian and famous travel vlogger Kyle Jennerman. He embraced the culture and life style.

Overall, Filipinos are more practical using forks and spoon. In the provinces, it's more common to use their bare hands in eating their meals. Of course, they wash their hands properly. Please, don't be very critical on your observation because, they Filipinos are more laid back. They are not in the rush unlike in the western countries. If you wanted to be endeared by Filipinos, be a little bit nicer especially when describing them publicly like in your youtube channel. It is different being straightforward if you are in the west but remember, you are just a visitor and you cannot change them. It's their culture.

For no.8 my friend, just to give you an idea, usually here in the Philippines if you're done eating in the restaurant and you don't have an additional order, just raise your hand at the waiter or any of the employees and let them know that u need to bill out! And that's it no need to wait for them to come over.😅😊

Ovela, remember the symbolic of Philippines 🇵🇭 Flag has Iconic picture of Sun ☀️ with eight(8) Rays, it means “A TROPICAL COUNTRY” it’s hottest place in Southeast of Asia. That’s why Philippines has a second name called…..”The Land Of The Morning Sun Of The East/ORIENT - ORIENS in Old Latin, besides of nickname called …..”The Pearl Of The Orient - Of East.” - If you not eat sufficiently(regular meals) beside of snacks between 9 a.m. & 10 a. m. & between 9 p.m. & 10 p.m., otherwise you might easily tired & keep rumbling your stomach without enough foods in your body during Summertimes in the Philippines. And most of all you need carry a towels around your shoulder to swiping frequently sweating during hot daylight & evening as well. Secondly the Philippines has “EIGHTH(8) ….,MAJOR LANGUAGES SPOKEN” 👅👅👅🇵🇭 around the whole Philippines Archipelago, besides of Tagalog Language, are included; Ilocano, Pampango, Pangasinan, Cebuano(Visayan), Hiligaynon, Waray & Bicolano, those Eight(8) Major Languages carrying the 187 Languages or Dialects of different Islands in the Philippines. And don’t be surprised about the way express Tagalog Language, when you have conversations with Filipino, it tells the way they talked, “It Manifests The Region Came From,” they’ve different accents & sounds of intonation when speaking Tagalog Language, & also the same thing here in U.S., the New Yorker’s(East Cost) are fastest English Speakers & Californian(West Coast) General American when they talks, & Southern States has Cockney Accents, & also Texan State as well.👅👅👅🇺🇸

A towel or handkerchief hanging on the back is to absorb sweat not to cover from the heat. It’s readily available for you to wipe your sweat. Filipinos use knives when they eat in a formal dining venue esp. when the menu is steak, pork chop etc. but in regular restaurants and local eateries, only spoon and fork are served. Why lots of Filipinos are fat or getting obese unlike their neighboring Asian countries because of the foods rich in carbs ,fried foods and sugar contents but less vegetable side dish. Filipinos love pork and sugary drinks are abundant everywhere. . Fast foods and processed foods high in calories and trans fat. Filipinos eat more rice and fatty foods but that’s also observable in Spanish American countries where they eat with rice and fried fatty foods.

Personally, I think that there are some things that other people do that you don’t in the same way that there are things that you do that we don’t do. But that’s the way it is. There’s nothing strange, wrong, or questionable about it. It’s just what it is. We all have our own ways in dealing with things.

1. Towel absorbs sweat and avoid drying sweat direct to the skin which is believed to be bad to our health, your clothes will not be easily wet by sweat since the towel is the one direct to the skin, you can wipe your back or body using the towel, and although those reasons might be lame, personally, I don't know, but it's less sticky and more comfy when you have a towel in your back that absorbs sweat than having a wet shirt. 2. Cashiers tell the amount they received to confirm that you're handing and they are getting the right bill because sometimes people make mistakes not realizing what they are givng the cashier, there are instances before that people argued that they gave something as opposed to what the cahiers claim they have received, kind of for evidence and reference purposes. 3. On restaurants, as courtesy, they wait for the customers to call them when they decide to pay, but for long preaparation, I know, we all wish it to be fast, that's why fast foods are so popular. 4. For heavy breakfast, it is believed to be the most important meal of the day , you need to have a lot of energy to start your day especially when you're working. 5. True, pleasing personality especially height is a requirement to become steward.

1) Tower at the Back - Its for Sweat, because if sweat stays at the back and you are going outside at the blasting heat and went into an Aircon or cool area, it may cause dryness of sweat at the back and causes flu or other related sickness.. That's why some people put Towels at the back so that sweat will be absorbed at the Towel 4) I would say, it's not really loud for waiters to say the amount.. and also they are just double checking the amount so that it's not confusing or a mistake from each party. 7) because it's Hot in the Philippines..

Bills usually take some time to get to you after a sit-down meal because most food places would only start noting down what you ordered, corresponding prices then calculate the total and then have the Manager validate, afterwards actually produce the bill either handwritten (takes longer) or enter into their cashier system (might take even longer, ironically). 😅
