CORRECTION: in 1968 the importation of fully automatic UZI’s was banned, however the sale of new fully automatic UZI’s was not. The sale of new full auto UZI’s was legal and they could still be added to the NFA registry until the Hughes amendment in 1986. These could either be converted from imported semi auto UZI’s or repaired cut receivers (UZI’s that had been decommissioned by cutting the receiver making them legal to import) . A small detail but an important distinction IMO.

New production fully autos require Class III SOT license which is quite expensive to obtain. Much more so than a tax stamp since you can manufacture your own fully's and suppressors so long as you don't transfer then to unlicensed civilians.

any machinegun registered pre 1986 is legal to own just like any other firearm however they are prohibitively expensive due to the demand far outweighing the supply since no new machine guns can be manufactured or imported for the civilian market, a law that I myself believe should be done away with.

It’s before 1986. In 1968 it was illegal to import new machine guns, so you had to chop them up and build them. Also it’s not illegal in the USA. You have every right to make and own whatever arm you want, but the government doesn’t see it that way.
