A friend of my teacher came to our school last year to do a presentation about flight, fight or freeze and she told us that one winter she was driving somewhere at night and she lost control of her car. It went off the road into a river which was mostly frozen over by thick ice. She had to break through the window with the palms of her hands and she figured out that the only way out of the water is around the ice. She found a strong current in the river and swam upwards to the surface because moving water won't freeze. I know this is a pretty long comment, but that's another good survival skill.

Skiing at Lake Louise I went a bit off trail to get some deeper powder and caught a ski on a hidden root or branch that flipped me into quite deep powder. I went so deep that I was totally lost on which way was up. All was the color of the inside of a cloud but the same in all directions. I was claustrophobic, panicking and realized I was in trouble. Told myself that my only way out was to THINK! From somewhere I remembered that spit runs downhill. I got myself a big selection of fear in my mouth and let it out slowly. It was difficult to keep my cool but I still had my right ski pole gripped so I started moving it in the opposite direction hoping I was going the proper direction and also hoping it was long enough to break the surface. Saved my life I feel as I was rescued by someone who saw the top of my ski pole. Just remembering the rules of gravity saved the day.

highway tip: If the car in front of you suddenly comes to a stop during high traffic and when the road is high speed, make sure to leave enough distance between you in the car in front of you to not crash into them and start honking. People get distracted on highways because of the long drive or technology, the honking will help get the person’s behind you attention and making them look up about the commotion, getting them to more likely take notice of your break light. Also would recommend slowly breaking so they have more time to take notice. This at least worked for me.

Step 1: Get your car battery, some flammable material pieces (dry cloth/plant) and a piece of wire long enough to loop around the tire. ( A cable from your engine bay should suffice) Step 2: Put the cloth/plant pieces on the inside of the tire. Make sure to evenly space it out. Step 3: Loop the wire in the inner wall of the tire with enough on each end to reach the center of the tire. ( make sure it has exposed fibers that touch the cloth/plant pieces. Step 4: Put the battery in the center of the tire and and carefully connect the wire to the positive and negative without electrocuting yourself. The electrified wire should spark the cloth/plant to catch fire which in turn should burn the tire and cause it to catch fire as well.

I personally would never drive a car that doesn't have a good spare tire and the basic tools needed for a quick repair.
