Interesting quote... " you almost don't need anything else for Marshall tones".... Yeah well the 1959/1987 amps are the epitome of paint peeling Marshall tone, and even with the channels jumpered are rather a one trick pony that takes some discipline to manage correctly! Awesome amps none the less.

I've watched this video a few times and would have to say the tone you are getting here is just phenomenal. It's probably the best tone I've ever heard on KZbin, my opinion. It is my dream tone for both VH and Hendrix. Most demo videos have kind of a dead guitar tone. This one is ALIVE. I am now looking to sell a couple pieces of gear to pick up one of these heads. Thank you for the great demo and info.

Thanks Nathan! It is a fantastic little amp! The Jubilee too. The little Marshall amps are all really great! Now if they would just do the JMP!!!
@southboundsuarez98329 ай бұрын
@BrettPapa The JMP too? You talking about the 2203/2204? Marshall Nomenclature is confusing, and I am a amp tech. When I hear JMP, I think of the anodized metal face versions of the SL1959/1987 amps produced in the early 70's (what is now also referred as plexi amps too), and the first 2303/2204 amps produced in the mid 70's before getting a facelift with new rocker switches.... The later 2303/2204 recieving a JCM 800 badge. (If I am in fact recalling correctly?) I am not trying to nitpick but just trying to clear up my own confusion on which "JMP" "Superlead" including "Mk2" namesake? Of course for purists the real Marshall is the Plexi circuits including the metalfaced Superlead 1959 and the arguably less powerful SL1987! Jim Marshall sure made it rather confusing how he named and marketed his amps. Imagine in a perfect amplifier utopian world if Jim Marshall had of just started calling his amps : 5f6b,5f6c,5f6d,5f6e,,,,etc.. ROTFLMAO!

2 years late but I will echo a common thread from many other comments. This is the best amp demo I have seen on KZbin. Marshall gets some of the credit for designing a modern, appropriately scaled amp but your playing gets at least 50% of the credit for its musicality and success in finding the sounds that prove the amp is hitting all of the classic tones. Wish I had seen this before buying my Origin 50.

Yo my brother, Brett. This Scotty East coast. I just came back to love of where I left it off. Due to me being complacent.. I kicked my self in the head so much. Left index finger tip hand injury. With all The self mind fuck, I put myself through. I finally been working through the BS and just could not live without playing the guitar. I been sinking much time to get myself back. I thank you for this video and many others I have viewed. Believe it or not I had to ask google if would be possible to play with a hand injury. G the goog led me to you tube. A video with this guy has a worse injury compared to what I had. This was absolutely ineradicable.This all needed th see and hear. It was tought to rehabilitate.. So i grab some drums piano and my guitar. I a old school guitar hondo H-76. I put some original Fender stat single pick up coils in it. The from the original times back in the sixties. I bought them fro a guy named Jerry Martin , He owed a small Music shop on Highland street Worcester MA. He closed shop, and seen him around in a while. any ways this guy was like us with music. I hired him with his to play at my wedding. He excellent musician. If you run into him. You who you heard it from. Thanks for your video. I pick up different ideas by watching . I apply many ways of hand placement techniques. Which has been working out well. So thank you very much. I will subscribe. Please keep playing great music. As I hope you will.

Last year I kept buying different pedals and stuff to get that Plexi sound, not knowing this existed. In November I saw a Studio Rats video on this amp (and the Jubilee) and was blown away! I found one locally and went to check it out. It was so loud I couldn't even get it to do "the thing" in the store, but I could tell by the feel and the dynamics that it would work. I brought it home and plugged it into my Two-Notes Torpedo Captor and that was it! It's the sound! It does ALL things Plexi! I sold all the pedals. This will live in my studio forever! Anyone considering it, do it! Anywhere you buy it from will have a return policy if you're really concerned, but this amp does "the thing"! 🙌🏻

Another awesome Brett Papa video. I've played thru all the Marshall 20 watt heads. Marshall has done an excellent job on these. The Plexi, JCM, and Jubilee, all great amps, still with the EL-34 magic glass bottles, with low noise levels for a tube amp.

For sure! And you are right they all sound fantastic!

I’m a volume knob rider on the guitar. I usually find that I have to set my amp to “kill” and turn volume back on the guitar and roll up for solos. Is there enough power in the sv20 to accomplish this in a band setting?
@BrettPapa2 жыл бұрын
Yep love rolling the knob. For sure it is enough to rock a gig!

Wow! Crazy good killer video, & information! And the playing! Wow. The playing. Papa Stache... man you just rock. I hope you can get that finger healed up soon - & back to 100%. Looks like you gnarled it up pretty bad. But just keep rockin! This amp sounds incredible - and it just works with how you play. I don't have $1,750 to drop on one right now. But I want one now. It'll be on the list for sure.

Brett-great demo. I’ve got the sc20 and love it. I tried the SV20 at very loud volumes once and loved it. However, it was a pretty hissy amp at that level. Did you use any sort of gate or noise suppressor when you recorded this demo? When I’ve used EQs in front of my amps, they’ve always added more hiss/floor noise. But they do indeed work well as you’ve demonstrated.
@BrettPapa2 жыл бұрын
It's not too bad over here. I've got pretty good power and isolation on stuff in the studio so maybe that helps. Also just for teaching purposes we touch that stuff up a bit in post. But not a crazy amount. Before the audio gets done I hear it as is in the studio and its really not bad on my end.

I opted for the JCM800 Studio Classic and can not get enough of the amp. I sit in the room and play everything from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s with it. I sometimes wonder if every band I liked from these decades played an 800 on their albums…. Anyway, Marshall nailed the 20/5watt thing with both the Vintage and the classic. I find it funny everyone has a Fender amp and tries to get the Marshall sound with pedals. It’s like, just buy one of these low watt Marshall and be done searching for the tone :). The clean tone on them are great as well! I’ve been considering getting the Vintage as well and your video helps build the confidence to do so. Nice video as alway Brett!
@BrettPapa2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daniel! 800's are fantastic amps! They were played on thousands of albums. I agree a lot of the sounds people are really searching for are just some sort of Marshall or Fenders for some. It's like coming back to that old familiar sound. That amp is fantastic you won't regret it!
@Pickles-s5k2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. If you want the Marshall sound? Get a Marshall. If you want the fender sound? Get a fender. People ask me, “why do you have a Marshall and a 5150iii?” I always respond, because the Marshall doesn’t do what the 5150 does and the 5150 doesn’t do what the Marshall does. Next on my dream set up list is that Fender with a Nobles or blues blues breaker/King of Tone in front. I love the sound that does and all you Nashville guys are getting. Keep up the good videos and interviews. They’re highly informative and we all love them!

@@jeremyversusjazz Most guitar gear reviewers stuff everything through attenuators and cab sims straight into a soundcard, who knows what this amp sounds like live.

Yep I am using the OX with a 412 cab sim.
@BrettPapa2 жыл бұрын
It sounds great with a cab. For what I do though it is too much for the lab mics etc to handle when you crank stuff up. Just remember it probably will sound better with a real cab and not worse. There are tons of demos out there where they are running through a real cab.

EVH' tone is the best tone sound of any guitar of all time. Its so much more alive than a Hendrix tone or SRV tone...nothing better. The first six album tone VH1 - 1984....unmatched

Love your video man! Really like this amp and the tone you got. I am also the biggest advocate for EQ’s, I’ll have to try that version of the Boss, I have the standard one, and a few Behringer EQ700’s because they have awesome tone and bite. Try the JHS little black box, you can crank any amp and have a master out when at the end of the chain in your fx loop. You’ll love it.
