Actually, the key recipe behind you looking smart is: Step 1: Edit the tinkering out of your Redstone videos. Even if you tell people that you've been experimenting for 3 hours, this will make them think it was due to complicated Redstone and not due to you not knowing what you're doing. Step 2: Make sure 90% of the audience doesn't even understand how an Observer works. A key component to looking smart is a relatively high difference in smartness in a very specific topic. For an extreme example, if you're at least mediocre at linguistics, anyone who's a complete moron at linguistics will think you're very smart in general even if you're a complete idiot in literally all other topics.

Back in my day we didn't have fancy observer T-flipflops. You had to take the basics of making a redstone clock (which used torches to invert instead of repeaters any anything fancy) and remember the cardinal rule: odd number of torches in the loop gets you a constant cycling clock, even number gets you a clock that cycles once every time it receives power.

These are all great! The thing is that quartz is not actually that expensive or hard to get, just a quick trip to the nether and it's everywhere, but slime blocks and sticky pistons are. To get a slimeblock you are gonna have to find slime chunks and dig a massive slime farm either that or spend your nights waiting out in a swamp for them to spawn.

I will teach you people about redstone. A single piece of redstone powder on the floor looks like blood. Dispenenensers, obsosoleservers, and floppers make good faces, jumpers above a fence look like cool pillars, you can hang a chain with levers, those weird hydraulic things, have a nice texture for wheels, buppons make good pebbles, obsolovers have a flashing light behind, slime and honey placed behind tinted glass have a glowing window effect, the list is endless, redstone is so useful.
