this is true, its all mostly due to how you care for your teeth at home. some people are more prone to calculus however for various reasons, like diet, genetics, their saliva, or even just the water in the area where they live!
@SilentNoMore646 жыл бұрын
Rico g I brush and floss. As a result, I don't have plaque problems. What I don't understand, is that these people have mounds of this garbage on their teeth, and when it is taken off, their teeth have no cavities or permanent damage. I work at caring for my teeth...it just seems weird to me that they neglect them so much and still have good teeth.
@sovietruski72816 жыл бұрын
when all the plaque is taken off they do NOT have good teeth! the plaque eats away at the gum and bone and makes the teeth looser in their sockets! it may not be cavities but it is a different problem we call periodontitis, and in my opinion the worst thing you can have wrong with your teeth. good job you take good care x

@IronBlockGames6 жыл бұрын
Some of it depends on diet, some depends on other factors. He has so much calculus build up that it almost looks like a protective shield at this point. Heck I lost all my teeth; I had an extra tooth that came in behind one of my front teeth. It was left alone as it didn't impair speech or eating and wasn’t visible. But they did press against each other. A cavity formed in between them that went unnoticed for I don’t know how many years as a visual inspection from my regular dentist visits showed everything to be looking fine, and due to the placement of the teeth it was masked on xray. But it eventually caused an infection that quickly spread, the nerves died so I had zero pain and didn't notice anything was wrong until I had puss coming out between them from an abscess that had eaten away the bone of my jaw. By this time it had spread throughout my upper and lower law and was eroding my teeth from the inside out. Top and bottom had to be removed. Don’t blame anyone for missing it. This is in the 80’s and early 90’s and dentist wasn’t as far along as it is today. What I do blame if the dentist that removed my teeth for dislocating my lower jaw and not having it pop in proper. Though only half blame as the crook in my law gives me a solid chewing edge allowing me to eat even nuts without dentures in.
@Coecoebrown6 жыл бұрын
If you have dry mouth, that plus diet and genetics could also play a part.
@pamerard83816 жыл бұрын
Thomas Bourne cavities are a highly infectious disease. You have to go through great lengths to fight it on a daily basis. Use mouthwashes, brush and floss after every meal. Try to eat healthy... Good luck! Smile 😃
@spiffyloo4 жыл бұрын
Diet is a huge part of cavities. Brush after every meal and snack. If you can't replace soda or any non water drink with water. You'd be amazed at how much acid exposure your teeth may get from snacking or even drinking soda during the day. The mouth takes 20 minutes to regain a normal pH. So if you're drinking a sip.of soda every 20 minutes it is constantly acidic making your teeth vulnerable to bacteria and decay

I couldn’t be more excited that you used the song. Can I ask a random question? Why do some dentists still not use ultrasonic picks to clean teeth in 2018? Once I figured out what they were, and I went to my first dentist that had one, I stopped going to my old dentist who will not use one because it seems ineffective and more painful. Why would a dentist opt out of modern technology that is clearly effective?
@calcaterrafamilydentistry6 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent question. Cleaning with an ultrasonic has been proven to be more effective than scaling with hand instruments alone. Some individuals - both dentists and hygienists - were trained on hand instruments only. And they feel more comfortable using those, despite the research.
@kstan7566 жыл бұрын
As a hygienist I can tell you that some patients just can’t tolerate it due to sensitivity. I have many patients that refuse any type of anesthetic so hand instrumentation is the only option for them. Of course I prefer using ultrasonic tech, it makes our jobs a lot easier, and more fun if I say so myself!
@Dr_Mantis_Toboggan6 жыл бұрын
Calcaterra Family Dentistry Thank you! Years I’ve been trying to figure that out because as soon as I tried an ultrasonic cleaner, I didn’t want to go back to the handtool. It felt very rough as my teeth are very tightly compacted together. So pulling the space between each teeth was dreadful. So now I feel like I can’t go back to a dentist I really like because they just don’t use those tools. I don’t want to criticize their practice, but doesn’t it seem like they should have that option? Thank you so much for your information! Love the videos, I get lots of happiness from watching calculus removed. It’s a great reminder why we go to the dentist and why we brush our teeth. I swear, if we showed kids these videos, you would see a lot more brushing and flossing haha!
@Dr_Mantis_Toboggan6 жыл бұрын
Kathy Stanojevic what’s interesting about that is that I think it is better for (my) sensitive teeth because there’s not so much pulling and jerking around. Since my teeth are pretty tight together, it’s a pretty violent process to get between them without an electronic tool.
@madhouse73646 жыл бұрын
I have experienced the opposite. No amount of topical numbing can ease the pain I feel from these ultrasonic tools. I have to plead for them to use a hand tool. Despite going 4x per year, my gums will always remain irritated and sensitive due to allergies and blood disorder. Several dentists have refused to use the hand tool, but let me reschedule after several minutes of enduring pain. I think there's some misconception regarding the best use of the ultrasonic tools.

Does removing heavy build-up calculus normally requires IV sedation or any other form of sedatives?
@calcaterrafamilydentistry5 жыл бұрын
No. This patient was exceptionally fearful - which is why he had not received dental treatment for nearly 20 years - which in turn is why he elected for IV sedation to treat his gum condition. The vast majority of patients are able to tolerate removal of this amount of calculus which just local anesthesia (a.k.a. novocaine) alone.

Does calcus push down the gums? It looked so in this video
@calcaterrafamilydentistry4 жыл бұрын
Calculus that remains on the teeth for extended periods of time can lead to the underlying bone and gums to slowly erode away. So the calculus doesn't "push" the gums down technically - but the calculus basically causes the gums to be lost.
