Musical buzzbomb. People sitting in chairs in a circle with buzzbomb flying just overhead. When the music stops, buzzbomb dives. Last person conscious gets to fly 2nd round. But my favorite is called the "Clothes Dryer". A 100 ft. tall ferris wheel with no seatbelts and no pivoting seats. I know, I know. You're probably thinking, "Who would wanna ride that?" And I say Everyone!! Because if you land in a seat, your second ride is FREE!!!

@@jayrenner665 No no no. I had the art of fusing stupidity with physical injury down pat. I had an SL70 once. For some idiotic reason, I decided i was going to make a jump out of an aluminum portable picnic table. @@leokimvideoI agree I’ve heard it as well. If you look at most mainstream rc magazines, ads, hobby shops, etc, very rarely is control line highlighted. I’m aware that people still do it, I’ve seen it at fly-ins and once in a blue moon at the field, but it is rare and I do feel it’s dying down as most young people head towards rc and rtf models.

I do control line sometimes; just round and round mostly - but you are connected with the plane and that is special. There are guys here who fly competition CL aerobatics, but I never could fly precise aerobatics. And pulling out inverted 6 feet from that cold hard tarmac.... 😢 I sometimes add a cheep Rc (Chinese) system to operate the throttle. With the newer phone type radio there is no interference issues. To anyone thinking of trying CL; a larger plane (not a jet!!!) circles slower, 5 or 6 seconds per lap on 55 or 60 foot lines. Keep looking at the plane and you won't get dizzy (you do get used to it, and i and 74yrs old btw). And you can certainly use a RC engine, just peg the throttle (1/2 to start with). Oh, and for an easy "trainer" flying be sure the plane is nose heavy, no further back than the leading wire (even on the leading edge of the wing will usually work!). Enjoy! Jim

I remember building these back in the late 60’s to early 70’s. These things where so super fast and hard to handle. It almost pull my shoulder out of the socket. I had made a special fiberglass wrist forearm brace just to be able to hold on. When I first got into them my father knew people still in the navy who came up with some small jet engines to mess with. I took a old bathtub 1920’s and kustom made a frame suspension designed along the lines of a Jaguar car. I ended up getting arrested for speeding down our street doing 167 mph. The noise that my jet engine put out was unreal. I was really into engineering had 5 degrees. If I wasn’t old and broken down these days. I would still be creating off the wall stuff.

First time i see a plane doing the tethered thing....yesterday was the first time ever i came across the concept of tethered racing. From watching the first 6 videos on it i had gained a little understanding and was aware that 'something was being launched by someone equipped with a precision launching device (a brush in 3 videos) with the something rapidly accelerating to a speed of over 200+ mph becoming a blurred something' Luckily the 7th video covered the preparation for racing the 'somethings', which turned out to be cars, that were the result of some high quality workmanship.

Editing is a wonderful thing. For those of you who don't want to be bored by watching setup and fueling, move to 4:51 in the video. That's when they actually start flying. The flight stops at 5:27... then there is more boring stuff until they replay the flight in slomo from 7:01 to 8:48. Seriously, this video would have been awesome if edited down to 2 minutes. Great flight. Just don't need all the stuff that 90% of viewers don't give a crap about. The other thing you can do is move your cursor to the timeline. Look for the first large hump and the second small one...then watch another video.

The description says the fence is "to prevent the trolley or aircraft leaving should the worst happen..." How is this tested? I doubt many pulse jet builders are willing to let go to test the event safety barricades.

About 1952 our U control club used 3 circles graded by an industrial public road scraper that left small irregular dirt piles outside the circle. A Dynajet speed plane was about to start. It was Sunday and a young couple with a small 6-7 year old son in their Sunday church clothes were standing close to the plane just outside the circle. We cautioned them to move back as we were on our way to hide behind our cars. They said they were ok as they'd seen these before. After the takeoff and several laps they couldn't be seen. A closer look showed them flat on the ground behind the dirt piles.

So they'd been hit?!

@EssentialRC No, they had been terrified and dropped to the ground. We never wanted to be near it either. KZbin just showed me a modern RC Delta wing pulsejet. It looked like it was going about 300 mph and I think RC ships like that are dangerous. These jets are as loud as a full size jet, louder that present day airline turbofans.

I heard, saw an rc jet engine powered plane at a model air show. Soo sweet ! I never thought of one on a control line. BTW Is there a panic button for if the plane is going faster than you can spin?

One could always let go and let the fence catch the plane

@@Michael-ij6kg I think there's a safety wire attached to the handle to prevent them getting loose and killing a spectator. These things let loose could clear that fence in an instant and cover a lot of ground quickly.

Are people still flying control-line airplanes ? I used to fly some when i was a boy, I was glad i moved on to RC. At least then i could sit in my camping chair and fly however i wanted hahaha. I always got a bit sick from flying in circles, still loved doing it though.
