2000 - 2004 Nissan Frontier Radio Install

Watch a full tutorial as a 2004 Nissan Frontier will have a Sony Aftermarket Stereo replaced with a new Pioneer DEH-X6700BT installed. We will be using the previously installed Metra Wiring Harness Adapter used with the previous stereo, however, these can be picked up at any local stereo shop, Walmart, Best Buy, or any online outlet. In addition, the Dash kit can also be purchased at those same locations. This install also applies similarly to OEM stock stereo replacements as well.
This video applies to Nissan Frontier truck models for years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 This video also includes dash trim and stereo removal, complete installation, and testing.

Disconnect the Battery, then you can disconnect those wires from the Air bag indicator, etc. IF the battery is disconnected, you will not get an error. There are ways to fix it on the internet if you forget this step. No need to take it to the dealer.

If I have a stock radio on my frontier and want to use this radio do I need to connect new wires or does the pioneer wires connect to stock frontier wires?

Get a Metra Wire Harness adapter Kit. This will allow you to adapt to the factory harness, and this also allows you to move the original radio back should you need or want to sell your truck. Never, I mean NEVER, ever cut your factory harness. This is butchering, and can cause other problems later on, as the truck ages. Plus, you will have a harder time removing your aftermarket stereo, and putting the original radio back.

Can you get an adapter that connects the headunit to an ISO connector and then another one that connects the ISO to the connector of the car?

The customer had an external amplifier and that red wire was the remote turn on wire.

Blue is a switched output. It can be used for a power antenna, or an external amp.

How is the radio grounded without the cable being connected ?

Nissan OEM radios are grounded through the chassis of the radio, not by a ground in the harness.

Do you happen to know the size of the screws needed? I’m replacing a used oem CD player unit and the bolts that secure the CD player are missing. (The previous owner had pulled the stereo out for some reason so currently there is a hole where the unit used to be)

where did you ground the wire to?

to the black ground wire in the wiring harness.

The Ground from the factory is the chassis where the radio screws into (Case is grounded) Most Radios are done this same way. When you screw the Radio back to the normal location, it is ground at that point, but, if you want to ensure that you have good grounding, take your black wire from your new radio, and ground it at one of the mouting screws.

did your truck have factory rockford fosgate system?

The customer's truck did not. For those systems, you would need a slightly different wiring harness, the Metra 70-7551 Receiver Wiring Harness. Hope that helps.

+Provo Beast Audio Installation...so that harness will keep the factory amp? Do you have any suggestions for keeping the steering wheel controls? Thanks for your help

yep, it will retain the factory amp. Just be sure to choose a radio that has two sets of pre-outs rca's because rather than using the speaker output from the radio, that harness has RCA plugs that connect to the radio's amp outputs. For Steeringwheel controls modules, i've always used the ASWC-1, have always had the most success with them.

I am considering doing this to my Frontier. Do you think I should do a double or single din install. I was thinking about the JVC KW-R910BT for a double din or a Pioneer DEH-X6800BT for a single din. What would you recomend?

All depends on the user. The pioneer interface is very IOS friendly, RCA's are 4volts, and higher resolution screen for the money. But of course, everyone has their preferences, I have just installed countless radio's and Pioneer has proven to be the most reliable and best to use.

I put a Boss Audio Double Din in my 03. Looks great, and, most folks that have seen it did not know it from a factory install. Plus, I did not have to buy a pocket to put the single D into. While Pioneer, JVC, Sony, etc are very good hardware, I went with the BOSS due to cost. Plus, I doubt anyone would steal it.

Hi we have a 2004 Nissan frontier radio Stop working when our son got a jump start and the person connected the the positive to the wrong pole I believe it may blowed the o internal radio fuse. Your thoughts?
