In 1975 I imported a 1967 Fiat Dino Spider with a factory hardtop sight unseen from Italy to Seattle, WA. for $3,350 delivered. The car had major rocker panel rust that I had repaired for very little money. I drove the car for a couple of years and sold it for almost three times what I had in it. The problem was that I sold it...

I was stationed in Naples, Italy in 1972. A young officer was offered a year early discharge but had to go like today. He was engaged. He sold me his '67 Fiat Dino 2400 Coupe IRS for $1500 ($11,000 in 2023 money). It was Red too. By '73 I had a chance to go Stateside. Gas prices had DOUBLED due to a gas shortage. There were Waiting Lines at the gas pumps. The Dino 6cyl with triple dual webers got a horrible 15mpg. So, being a Young, Broke and Stupid Veteran about to attend University I sold the car in Italy. How much? I don't remember😖. I do recall how great it performed! Like a jet engine. Naples to Rome (136mi) in 1hr.!!

I have a ‘67 Fiat Dino Coupe 2000, headed to the engine rebuilder now. Everything else is excellent. The 2.4L are the more valued because of the power increase and the IRS. The 2L cars have a live axle rear that’s a bit clunky. Its a tough car to put a value on because while they haven’t gone crazy yet, they’re rare enough that you won’t find an affordable one that doesn’t need a lot of restoration. In other words, the elevator is going up now on these. But at 75k, what other Italian cars are out there with a RACE BRED Ferrari engine in perfect condition? The other models with this engine are the Spyders (2x the price), Dino 206 and 246 GTs (250k+), and the Lancia Stratos (100k+). 75k is a steal.

When we were early in our marriage, my wife and I owned two Fiat Spider 200s-here a 1980; mine a 1981. We were ate an Italian car show in the early 90s-my car was in the Fiat corral-when we saw two Fiats over in the Ferrari group. One was a Fiat Dino coupe and the other a Fiat Dino convertible. We stood there admiring them when the owner came up and explained the engine-sharing history. I loved the convertible. It was a Pininfarina design that looked like my Spider had grown up. I thought the coupe-a Bertone design-was beautiful, too, but I'm a top-down guy. My wife continued talking to the owner and she came over to tell me he would sell us the coupe for $10,000. "No," I said, "We already have two Fiats." I'm an idiot. When my Spider finally began to give up the ghost in 2004, she said "You really need a new car." Yeah, i thought, I should really grow up and get Camry or something. "You should get that Lotus Elise you're always talking about," was her response. So I did :) Thank God I wasn't an idiot when it came to marriage.

I am the owner of a Fiat Dino Coupè and an expert on this beauty. Speaking of rust on this car, not to be confused with other Italian cars, at the Bertone factory they immersed the bodywork in a series of tanks for phosphating treatment, exactly as it is now done on modern cars, there is a designer magazine called " Style Auto" volume n°13 of February 1967 in which all the photos concerning all the construction phases of the Dino Coupè are published, including those of the anti-rust treatment. I think the Bertone factory was one of the few in the world to use this method, furthermore the Dino was originally painted with acrylic paints, light years away from other car companies, including German ones.

Wow: What a beauty! I longed to have a Fiat Dino since the Seventies. I never found one I could afford. Once I went to look at one at a classic car dealer. It had rust. In Switzerland, we have salt on the roads in winter and it is humid. So rust is the worst enemy for those vehicles. And they were rare where I live. I have seen much more Ferrari Dinos than Fiat Dinos in Switzerland. I knew only one person who owned one. That is one of the cars I dreamt of owning and I will never have in my garage. This car is one of the prettiest vehicles ever: Like a small and simple version of the Iso Grifo. Well I own more classic cars than I can handle and maintain. But I would be so happy owning this vehicle in this condition. By the way : Those are Cromodora wheels. I bought smaller ones for my Fiat 124 Spider. I sold a set in the late Seventies for 80$. And when I bought a set ten years ago it cost me 800$.

I've always been fond of the spider version of this car, but was not really familiar with the coupe version. Given the prices of so many other cars today, I'll admit to being surprised that this Fiat Dino coupe didn't appraise for more given the sort of values so many other vehicles are supposedly worth these days. One thing is for sure, Sammy is my favorite owner that you've had on this segment - I love his attitude.

I remember the night I was driving my '74 X1/9 home and crossed paths at a stoplight with a couple driving a Dino Spyder. They dipped their lights at me as we passed, and I dipped mine in return... Which, from their perspective must have been hilarious, as the popups on my car had a semi-stripped spline on the passenger side causing the lights to do this kind of Peter Falk squinting half wink every time they were raised or lowered. I was just blown away that an owner of a Spyder had cared to acknowledge the lowly X1/9 :)

I was stationed with the Air Force over in Germany in 1977 and a friend of mine had a 69 Fiat Dino in his garage. It was green with a gold colored interior. A beautiful little car. When friend was getting ready to move back to the states he offered to trade it to me for my 73 Ford Capri since my Capri was American spec and the Fiat wasn't. He knew he could still import the Fiat but wasn't much interested in the paperwork involved. Anyway, we made an agreement to do the swap (I really don't remember if there was any money involved but I don't think so). Unfortunately, we were having a going away party for one of our coworkers and I had a few beers before deciding to go to a local Winefest. Well I went too fast into a corner with the Capri and totaled it. Luckily just a broken nose and some bruises but basically killed the deal on the Fiat. Always regretted that. I caught up with my friend many years later and found that he did import the Fiat back to the States but later sold it. One that got away.

Dino was a Brand Enzo designated specific to V6 ( smaller engined Cars ) in honour of his Son ! Dino ! The car you refer to as a Ferrari Dino was never badged a Ferrari ! This was added at dealerships to help sell the cars as no one wanted to purchase the car as a Dino without the Ferrari Badge ! As soon as lovers of quality cars realise this these cars will rapidly increase in value as they should ! 😊 also checkout the specifications that Bertone put into his body shell prep !
