2000 Honda Prelude Crank/No Start

Today we're diagnosing a crank/no start on this 2000 Honda Prelude!

Crank no start.. shoot another direction lol so many options for this problem..my head hurts and... now my neck and back hurts from watching you work..amazing how you can do that upside down 😊

Looks like a few things happened. 1) looks like the ignition assembly was replaced possibly after it was once stolen. 2) the ignition switch shorted due to poor contact and arcing leading to the solder melting and then direct short to the screw /column ground. 3) your assumption about the shaft being loose could have cause the initial rotation issue( and possibly swinging keys dangling) There is a test to for checking the continuity for those pins which I’ve had to do for a 2006 accord and 2008 acura RDX . Glad it’s not too expensive of a part.

This is a very common fault and a factory recall although as so much time as past Honda won't honor it anymore, I don't even replace it with a new one because the new one is also designed the same and will eventually fail in 10 or 20 years or less depending on how many times you turn that key, if you got in and out of your car 20 times a day it would happen 20 times faster than usual, also to note this will also put heat into the main relay the powers the fuel pump and everything's else, so depending on how much this car has been used since the key switch started arcing then that could need resoldering which is pretty easy to do, but anyway best way to fix the ignition switch is to take that contact pad out and then cut the black plastic a bit make a new contact that is slightly longer on the left so it doesn't sit on the edge anymore, i will make a video of it on my channel at some point
