2000 Honda VFR800 Review - The perfect all rounder?

its pretty rare for someone to be honest enough to say "its to much for me" good for you, thats a very healthy motorcycling perspective. I have moved from the big liter bikes to a 09 VFR800, I feel its the best decision I ever made, I LOVE the V4

Nick Massey absolutely agree. I’m on my 6th bike now, my 2000 VFR800 is a keeper after a cbr400rr, 2001 zx9r, gsxr k5 litre, cb900 hornet, cbr600f. The Suzuki was simply stunning but quite simply overkill for public road use.

I drove almost 1100 kilometers round trip to pick up my ‘98 vfr interceptor 5 years ago. Love the 5th gen vfrs! That winding gear-driven cam is a beautiful sound. Mine had 30k miles on it. Now 36k miles. Congratulations on your purchase.

That's a nice 5th gen - I don't think they ever offered it in blue in the USA -very cool! I agree that the VFR800 is the best all-rounder especially if you only have one bike - I have a 2014 and it's fantastic!

Hey man nice, CBR 1000 rider from the US here, I watched your review on the 2004 CBr over a year ago glad to see you're still safe and nice choice sticking with Honda. The vfr is a great bike. More of a Moto GP technology engine than the cbr, although i love my 2015.

MikesBikes the 2015 would feel overall lighter and more powerful than the 04 you had, you'd feel it, but it still isnt as much as a bmw or zx10 on the top end. But who cares? Its a great street bike, ive done some dumb stuff in the past and doing 180 on a regular basis will get you in trouble eventually. Just enjoy the ride!

I have the same bike now, sapped back to one of these after I traded my last 800 in for the 1200 - which is insanely powerful and quick, and used plenty more fuel, with a smaller tank. I agree the 800 is a great compromise bike. Love the high pitch whine of the cam drive train!

Just bought one..its been abused and been left outside exposed to the elements of salty air on south coast U.K.. seized rear caliper blowing exhaust on headers ..but the engine oh man shes sounds immense my lockdown 2 project has started ..man cave is now theatre for surgery ..with beer snd whiskey involved ..best lube ever

Type of bike i would ride 24/7 without anyfear of bein stolen outside, lovely i have to test one and im partially broke for the moment so maybe the perfect fit for a budget and still pleasure bike, and a natural evolution of the gt side i v had with my last 2 sv 650 S

Think your rear shock must be goosed if you had to wind it right up. Either that or you want a setup so stiff it hammers your piles back in. Had mine for 5 years now. Possibly the best bike I have owned. Have had CBR600s, R1s etc but the VFR is spot on.

One thing I’ve noticed is that they do kick out some heat when in city riding in summer. But once I’m back on the move it soon cools down.

Sure man. I fitted some upgrades to the forks which I got from DMr suspension. New adjustable valves and stiffer springs. Really helps the bike handle better.

A couple of grumbles. it's difficult to see if the indicator lights have cancelled, the riding position could be more upright , and it would benefit from a tighter steering lock. otherwise probably the best cheap s/h bike you can buy. it does everything well.difficult to find anything better.

@@alleywatson They all run bloody hot in traffic Alex. I installed a remote fan switch on my bars so I can get the fan to kick in as and when I want. The auto fan still operates normally.

Why do you shift that quickly, if you up the refs to 10 or 11 you will see a totally different machine. 5K is not where you want to shift, far too early.
