He bought this 2 month ago from a dealer for £2000 with 10 months mot on it , he’s not happy, the mot tester can’t hit it with a hammer but someone knew how bad this car was and that’s some terrible bodged corrosion repair using expanding foam and filler

In the mid 1980's I went to look at Triumph Spitfire .... it looked OK ... when the guy went inside to get the keys I literally tapped the front section of the sill .... and my foot went in to the ankle. Il left before he returned 🙋😁

When I was young, worked in a garage in north east uk, got a car in for MOT, it had a potato cut off inside a hole in the chassis with black paint over it.

You have to get dvsa to re-examine it within 3 months on corrosion, 1 month on any other defect.

You have just likely ruined any chance of a complaint to D.V.S.A. it was obvious that the repair was poor and within 2 months the D.V.S.A would have looked into this within the 3 moths to complain about corrosion. After that you could have looked for a remedy for compensation. If the car has been bought from a dealer then they are who you should seek your compensation from. If you bought it from a dealer you should seek compensation from them but you will likely need an engineers report not just a bloke in a hat with a hammer's word for it to get any compensation as quite often this ends up in the hands of trading standards.

Never understand people who do this, so much easier just to weld it up. Take trader and MOT station to court, if it even went to a real MOT.

Too assess corrosion or suspicious repair, VOSA recommends firm finger and thumb pressure only, or gently use of an approved corrosion assessment tool in the correct manner .. not smacking with a hammer...

Same happened to me with my 4.0L Jeep Cherokee. Looked good on top, lovely to drive. Left it at garage for it's MOT They rang me later saying they wouldn't do inspection because of rust. Sold it on Ebay as a restoration or parts. Good that you show what's out there.

I had thought this sort of thing was largely a thing of the past. It seems that manufacturers have just found ways to stop the parts we see dissolving whilst they fall apart out of sight. Legislation should force them to be responsible for non accidental structural failures for at least twenty years. I believe that if this was done we would soon have vehicle structures made from stainless steel and carbon fibre. Manufacturers will scream that it’s impossible or too expensive but they currently have no incentive to make it happen. They have been forced into making vehicles safer and more environmentally friendly why should this be different?

When I bodged my cars in the mid 1970s I did not use expanding foam. Just honest P38 and repair gauze. I used to make a better job than this example. Also it was never to sell just to keep my car a little bit longer.

the tyres are threadbare, who bought this car, Stevie Wonder, OK fair enough not everyone is a home mechanic but surely people check the sills, bottoms of the doors, the bushing points, coil-over cap plates, leaf spring lugs, look under the boot liner etc the basic stuff, it takes no more than five minutes with a torch and bend down to check this stuff, someone should go see the seller, but that's waste of time they know they did it and they don't care, I value that car at under £100, engine, seats, bumpers, mirrors, eBay them,

Are they not allowed to hit that hard in a mot if they suspect a bodge? Ì mean over here we get checks from the governing body every now and then(3% of all the tests we do) And i have seen them grab the hammer and do it. And i have done it as wel because we had some customers that i knew would bodge it like this. And yes i loved doing it if i knew they where trying to screw someone over by selling a bodged car like this. I would go all out and make it as big of a mess as i could.

Years ago my friend his first car was a MK1 Escort with bubble arches . He lived down a dark alley and the Escort only had one spotlight as a reversing lamp which was the thing back then. Needless to say he reversed in to a post one night . Once he set about repairing it he found out that the rear fiberglass arches where packed in with masses of filler and actual ice cream tubs to hold the filler in place😂😂

On the old mot paper it used to use you had 3 months to report any rust to the DVLA. I'd be going back to the garage and seeing what they had to say before telling them you were informing the DLVA.

Why you are seeing more and more old cars with "Dodgy" MOT tests on... The price here in the UK of 2nd hand cars is a TOTAL RIP OFF. When I passed my driving test in 1990 you could buy "Good bangers" with a year's MOT test on... for £500 (About £1200 in today's money) People are asking £5000 for 11 Year old Ford Fiestas.... ARE THEY ON DRUGS??? I took my car for its annual MOT 2 months ago.... I had to spend £700 on the car to get an MOT test on the car... But it was better than selling it for scrap and looking for another 2nd hand car. Now I know where you can buy "Dodgy" MOT tests for £150 ..But I would prefer not to do this... However, for the next MOT, I am going to take the car for a pre-MOT test one month before it expires (A mock MOT test on the car...But if it fails I can still use the month MOT that is left on the car) If I am looking at YET ANOTHER huge repair bill just to get another year from my car, I may well be looking at the said "Dodgy" MOT test just to get one more year out of my car (As long as the brakes/steering and tires are safe) Thank you for this video.

Wouldn't cost me a thought. They're all like that or going that way. This is why God invented welding. Cut the grot, weld in fresh metal & treat the entire underside with a proper rust-killer so it doesn't just rust away again. BTW, just at a glance, you could have mushed in the quarter-panels as well - those all go too. That ones ^ are full of filler. Those also need cutting out & replacing. Fun. :-) It goes with the territory on these - you better be able to weld or know someone who can.

Garages should be able to report cars like this to the insurance companies and then having them classified as a write-off until an independent engineers report is given that it is structurally safe, before being allowed to go back for an MOT.

Awful - greed and selfishness of some people, putting a family's life in danger. I've seen several "modern" cars, low miles, FSH, only to be as rotten as a pear underneath. Don't buy second hand unless you can have it on a ramp and professionally checked out first!✌️👍😊
