Just started with my wiring harness, would never had known how to try this without your KZbin channel. THANK YOU

Great video. How is this affected by the retrofit wiring kit for the instrument cluster? I have a Subaru motor in my '87 Weekender and a couple wires on the blue foil sheet shorted out and melted. My mechanic tells me that he can't figure out a way to get the check engine light to work with the retrofit wire kit. Any ideas?

could you possibly do a k20 motor with stock wiring harness and ecu wired into a 2003 VW beetle harness?

Hi ,fantastic vidoes,I was just wondering what you do with the sensor grounds,are they left alone. Im trying to get a 2000 Impreza 2,5 harness to work on my 2000 2.2 Impreza and for some reason the fuel pump wont cycle and the obd2 wont connect,your input would be greatly appreciated.

Not a lot of demand for someone to invest in making these harnesses from scratch. A friend of mine put a 2.5 in a Baja Bug. He bought the adapter hardware from a company in California. They didn't offer a mod dedicated harness but gave him contact info for a guy that did them one at a time. I love how it drove when he was done. I wasn't to do the same thing but always had some other projects or lack of time.

+abe frohman That's exactly what I do for people. I wonder if I did his harness :)
@abefrohman17597 жыл бұрын
I don't know he built his in about 95. I believe the adapter came from Kennedy. I had a dozen or so friends in a club of Baja owners. Several of them had swapped to other motors including Subaru, Toyota and Ford 2.2 I was one of a few still using a VW motor. We even had a guy with a 1.6 diesel in his.

+abe frohman oh yeah, about 10 years before my time. I love hearing about all the wild swaps.

I had my semi stock 1641cc motor poking along at the back of the pack but I wasn't doing clutch swaps every month either.
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+abe frohman Ha! A 200mm clutch became a routine maintenance item with a high horsepower engine. I haven't seen that in normal driving but I bet in Baja style driving it would wear it out pretty quick.

Are you able to do a harness from an 08 WRX? I pan swapped a Renault and would like to do a Subaru swap.

I have a harness that I did up for a swap and I am wanting to get rid of the fuel level and pressure codes. You mention putting resistors in to get rid of them, can you go into that in more depth as to what wire needs what resistance please. I am also having some other issues I believe might be related to the harness, would you be willing to help me try and figure them out?

Some questions trying to get everything finished up for a test fire. I can start on ether only right now. fuel pump isn't getting power from the relay and even if I hotwire the pump it seems the injectors are not firing. any tips? also around 10:10 you mention 3 splices for the busaru speed sensor. ignition on, ground, and the VSS connection to the ECU I'm guessing?
@PullStartStables7 жыл бұрын
also, test mode connectors do not activate the fuel pump relay.
@PullStartStables7 жыл бұрын
I kept messing around and found an ignition wire that needed signal to make the fuel pump cycle but it still wouldn't start. after de-cluttering the excess wires from the ecu connections I got it to fire. I'm not sure what changed between cleaning up the harness and earlier, but it starts every turn of the key. So, back to the VSS, cooling, soldering the connections and cleaning up the harness.

Knowing that your experience with these harnesses is an advantage, how low does it take you to go through a harness such as this one from start to finish?
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Alberts about 8 hours.
@forthwithtx58527 жыл бұрын
Took me two weeks. An hour here, a half hour there. Because I didn't want to cut any wires I wasn't supposed to (did anyway). I had to (wanted to) lengthen some wires and shorten others to make them work better in the harness. Also, I didn't run a transmitter for the OBDII, and actually ran wires to the front for a ScanGaugeII. Reason: As the years roll by, the support for some sort of Apple product may disappear. If I did it again, it would probably only take me a day or two. A guide to the years/models with differences in sensors (MAS vs. MAP) or the newer atmospheric pressure sensors, would help a bit. Thankfully, I haven't had to deal with TBW issues in my application, but some will. The "spoofing module" that SmallCar sells has saved me some issues with codes. Perhaps there is a better way for the DIY'er. Thanks for doing this. Although I may be done with it, myself, many will appreciate it!

+Jaime Willard the 2005+ Ecuador need to have the immobilizer with the harness. It's. A security feature that makes engine swaps a little trickier but still possible.
@jwillard9117 жыл бұрын

@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Jaime Willard a good bit extra, I usually recommend going with an early 2000's harness.

i am surprised that no company has made a custom wire harness for this type of swap
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+luke9511 from your perspective what would be the benefit?
@luke95117 жыл бұрын
less stress on the person doing the swap and less stress for someone like who who has to do it by hand where it could be done by machine instead and be mass produced
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+luke9511 It's no stress for me to do it and it's only $450. Due to connectors not available for purchase, the robotics necessary to build a custom wiring harness, as well as the variability between years and models - it would be a disaster if a company invested heavily in that only to realize there isn't a demand for mass production.

I was hasty ripping out the wire harness from the parts car without marking anything and lost track and later may have cut stuff I might have needed. So Long story short I ended up having to buy a complete car and now going to go at it methodically .Sure would be nice if I could send the harness to you so you could do the deleting for me label shit and test it so it would be a slam dunk over here. I have a 2000 Impreza which is much similar to the 2000 Legacy. Please contact me if this is at all possible.we can use face book for our first contact.Be friend me Louie Forgett. Thanks

@matthewmorrison24357 жыл бұрын
Do you absolutely need the harness? Let's say you can find an engine and don't go the donor car route.
@matthewmorrison24357 жыл бұрын
Let's just say that you have only the engine
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Morrison You need something to control ignition timing and fuel injection. Usually that happens with the Subaru computer, which needs a harness to connect to its sensors and controls. You can go to a junkyard and get a harness or pay someone else to get one for you if all you have is an engine.
