Arc winner beats Arc winner. I guess you would call this an above average Derby.

The first of a hat trick of victories for Ireland starting with Sinndar who went on to land the Curragh version. Galileo and High Chaparral did exactly the same. Sakhee achieved Arc glory over a year later.

John Murtagh, one of the most under rated Flat Jockeys of all time. Derby's and l'Arc. Should Johnny of been on the Very Good horse, he won.

The 3rd horse beat hollow won the Arlington million as well . Was one of the best derbys of recent times the 2001 and 2002 versions were also very good.

Had money on him but was worried that he'd got himself boxed in. When Sakhee took off for home, I thought Murtagh had got out just too late to catch him. Was roaring my head off when I saw that he was starting to close on Sakhee. Wasn't there in person to see this win, but saw him win a few weeks later at the Curragh, and was also at Longchamp to see him win the Arc later that year.

Just read that this great flat horse has passed away. This of course led to some outstanding Derby winners already this century like Galileo, Sea The Stars and Golden Horn. John Oxx trained the 2000 Derby winner and of course trained Sea The Stars one hundred and eight months later.

Sakhee proved his class as a 4year old when winning a clutch of group 1 races including the arc and just failed when frank dettori asked him to set a suicidal charge for home with a full 4furlongs left to run in the breeders cup classic with the classy Tiznow settled in behind as Sakhee tired he hung away from the rail allowing Tiznow to get up close home to snatch a famous and well deserved victory for this America champion....

Did Sakhee not get injured in the Classic ?

Tiznow was ahead of Sakhee early in the 2001’BC Classic. Sakhee made his run outside of Tiznow and would pass the defending champ, who was having a hard time getting by very underrated frontrunner, Albert the Great. As a fan of Tiznow from the time I saw him in person win the gr3 Affirmed Stakes in the summer of 2000 when the very good Dixie Union(winner of what is now the American Pharoah Stakes at 2, and who following the Affirmed would win the gr1 Haskell and in December of that year the gr1 Malibu at 7f) came up to the big Cal-bred, drew even at the top of the stretch, and though looking 1-20 at that point would be turned back by Tiznow.. It was a sight repeated by Tiznow at the highest levels and at a time when Godolphin and Coolmore were evolving into intenationally dominant racing operations.

52 seconds for four furlongs isn't fast, not even allowing for Epsom's stiff early part of the course. Commentator is clueless.

craig cameron The winner was trained by John Oxx who repeated the feat nine years later with you know who, Sea The Stars. Both Sinndar and the latter won respective Arcs in France.
