I’ve been in the UPS industry for a long time - when I first started researching solar for my RV I had an “a-ha!” moment when I realized I was just building a UPS with multiple chargers.

I will be using a Bluetti AC200 Max as our system in our motorhome. I wanted something simple. I installed a system from scratch in our 5th wheel years ago & didn't want to have all the different components.

I have wanted solar for ever. But way too old to get up on the roof to keep them clean. Still trying to figure out if I can create a portable system on the ground. Also, someone said a generator will charge the batteries enough to be usable. I don't require much electricity... except air in the summer. Thanks for the great run down of the series and parallel. It makes so much sense the way you explained it. I thought you could only have one or the other... the way you configured them is so practical. Thanks again for taking the time to share with all of us. I so enjoy both of you!! Wish I could adopt you as my grandkids!!

Nice job, you sure know your stuff. Very interesting video and if I had a RV I would pay you to install a system like yours. Enjoy both of you guys. Take care.

I wish I was knowledgeable about this but I wouldn't attempt this at all. I'm a cabinet maker by trade and electricity has always frightened me. Take care guys

Really easy to learn and quite safe with low voltage RV setups

Hi guys, Enjoying your videos, lots of great info. Myself & my wife are renovating a 2000 Fleetwood 24' motorhome. Haven't picked or installed our solar yet. Was thinking about a shower loop but I don't have the space. Cheers Rob

I installed our shower loop as an experiment. I would probably say don’t do it unless you absolutely know you will need it. Otherwise, it’s not worth it.

Hey there! Amazing job explaining the compenents and how they all work together. Only thing I'm left wondering is why you went with 24v and not 12? What would the difference in your setup look like if you ran your batteries parralel?

Hi, stumbled across your channel looking for information on TV lifts and found your video on your tv cabinet build. Then I had to wonder what brand of RV do you have. I own a '99 Fleetwood Discovery and the interior is similar and I have been wanting to put a TV cabinet in the same place you did. So thanks for the info and link to a lift. We are also considering full time RVing when I retire and would love to do solar. Enjoyed your solar install video and even though I have done a small solar install on a van conversion I did. I am a little overwhelmed at a large install. So if you are ever in Colorado, I would love to meet you both and get you input on a solar install. I have been enjoying some of your other videos as well. Keep up the good content. It helps when our Coaches are similar in layout.

Excellent job what did you use for panels and all that good jazz

We used rich solar 200 watt panels. They were light weight and small enough for our install.

Trying to do a similar 24v setup! Are your buck converters hard wired to the dc distribution panel? If you were in shore power would this be an issue of "back feeding"? Just trying to figure all this out! Love the victron systems.

How long can you run your ACs with this set up? How long does it take solar to recharge them.? Is that enough solar power to be able to run at least one AC full time when you’re traveling. The set up I am trying to piece together will be very calm. I will have right at 1000 AH of lithium batteries with 2000 W of solar. I am just trying to figure out if it’s worth the cost and if I’ll be able to make enough power with the solar to at least use one AC while we travel without the generator needing to be turned on.

Thanks. Care to tell us what the total cost of the setup was? Also, Please comment on how well the system works when dry camping.
@ryanandsu
@ryanandsu 2 жыл бұрын
Sure. We spent $6,00 on the batteries and about an addition $4,000 on everything else. If we are dry camping in a sunny area (i.e. not shaded) it works fantastic. We can run one of our air conditioners entirely off our panels. We have switched to using all electric for our cook top and over. As long as we don’t run multiple appliances at once, it all works great. And during the summer, we will cycle our water heater electric element to run during the day and shut it off at night when we don’t have solar power. The water stays hot for everything we need.

@@ryanandsu thanks for the reply. From what you said I would assume you only need to use your generator to charge your batteries In case you are lacking sunshine.

@@nicholastinling1022 We only used our generator once last year. I need to do a better job of starting it more often. It's not great for it to sit unused. But it was nice to not need it.

@@deanhauser6626 Yeah, it was cheaper than buying cells and putting together my own batteries at the time. Dakota lithium gave me a quantity discount and a backorder discount as they didn't have any stock when I ordered them. So it worked out to $612/battery. The fact that they all have a BMS and 11 year warranty, I just couldn't match the price anywhere else.
