ABOUT 1ST GEN ACURA MDX :
Acura introduced the MDX nameplate in its inventory in 2000 (for 2001 model year) when it replaced the body-on-frame SUV Acura SLX that shared its platform with the Isuzu Trooper, and the new model became a hit in the carmaker’s lineup.
When Acura introduced the MDX in the early 2000s with its unibody platform, it marketed it as a sporty SUV. The reliability and comfort provided by the vehicle, combined with luxurious amenities, made it a desirable car for families. Its only drawback was the lack of a variety of engines since the automaker provided it with just one powerplant, a 3.5-liter V6. But, unlike other competitors, it was available with a sat-nav system starting in 2002 for the 2003 model year.
Acura introduced a facelifted version for the MDX's first generation in 2004, adding slightly more power and an enhanced look for its biggest crossover. Yet, Acura changed the front fascia by adding a thicker chromed slat on the grille instead of the formerly used slim horizontal line that supported the badge. Also, the bumper was changed and sported new, more angular foglights. Moreover, Acura installed a shield-like plastic panel under the bumper depending on the trim level.
The 2001 MDX 3.5-liter V6 engine was produce 240 horsepower. For 2003, the engine was improved to produce 260 horses which more power than the earlier models. The 2004 MDX engine received a bit increase in power and produces 265 horsepower.
