Thanks so much for this video, Our install went pretty much as described. We started by disconnecting the negative battery cable for safety. We were quoted over 500 dollars to have the fans replaced for our 2005 Honda CRV. My wife and I spent 114 on two fans and a bag of extra clips which since we were already missing some. You have to pop a bunch more clips to remove the plastic cover on the underside of the vehicle as well(not sure if it was already removed in the vehicle in the video). You're bound to break at least one or have some missing already. The result was two hours of work and not too much trouble! Our CRV fans now work and it doesn't feel like it will stall with the ac on at a stop. Overall I think doing it seemed less painful than what we expected watching the video, but we're glad we had this for reference!

A very helpful video. I had a couple of comments related to my 2004 CRV fan replacement that were a little different than what was shown. I had to remove the plastic bonnet underneath (not described in the video so don't know if there wasn't one on the 2002 model or it had already been removed for other reasons and not mentioned) as well in order to access the hood latch bar and access the two electrical connectors attached to the bottom of the condenser fan (passenger side). Also the replacement radiator fan I got was 1/4" deeper on the motor housing than the original. There was no way to slide it in and clear the hood latch bar, so I ended up having to remove the battery and relocate the air intake in order to drop it in straight down. The two electrical connectors at the bottom at the condenser fan were a real bear to remove. I am far from being a shade tree mechanic and others may have better luck, but accessing them was a real challenge with my large hands. All in all I was very pleased with the work done especially as it saved me a net of $700 over what the Honda dealer was going to charge.

I'm glad the video helped! And thanks for sharing the additional info for the 2004 model. As far as the electrical connectors at the bottom of the fan, I found that it was easier to remove them from the top instead of underneath the car. After I had the fan loose and could turn it to the side a little, and it gave me just enough room to reach my hand down and slide the connectors (From the top view) to the right. That's why I showed in the video how each clip was attached, since it is hard to see from above the engine. I hope others try it themselves like you and save themselves $100's. ;-)

Thanks for the video. Both fans on my 2005 Honda CR-V were not working. Ordered both from Amazon. About $45 each. My neighbor helped me and we replaced in an hour. We did have to move a plastic cover under the engine. Maybe Mike's CRV was already missing it. Should have order some of those nylon fastener rivet clips. I was missing several and some others broke. Glad you told us about the bolt on the bottom. Watch this video before you replace your fans.

Does the bolt for the center support screw in from the bottom, or down from the top? I wasn't sure if the section of the video showing the bolt head was looking up from under the vehicle, or down from above.
@mikesbackyardmechanic

Hello there! The view of the bolt head in the video is from under the vehicle looking toward the front of the car. The bolt screws in horizontally, not vertically. I hope that you understand what I'm trying to convey. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing to our channel!

I have a 06 crv is there anyway i can tell if its the fan thats dead? Or is it the wiring or fuse?
@mikesbackyardmechanic
@mikesbackyardmechanic 6 жыл бұрын
You can unplug the fan and use a multi-meter in the plug that the fan plugs into to see if there is power getting to the fan. If there is power getting to the fan than you know its the fan. If the multi-meter shows that no power is getting to the fan while the engine is running and the A/C is on Max, then you know its a fuse or wire. Hope you find out. ;-)

My 04 CRV was overheating when I stay at a bumper to bumper traffic, when I got home I noticed with car on and hit the cooling fan won’t turn on, I did switch the relays to see and no luck, but when I turn on my AC both fans turn on, can it be the cooling fan on its way out or already done?
@mikesbackyardmechanic
@mikesbackyardmechanic 11 ай бұрын
Hello there! Sorry to hear about the overheating issues. Check your coolant fluid levels first, make sure they are topped off. Also make sure that your radiator fins are clean so that air can pass through them. Usually, an overheating problem that develops even when both fans are working properly, is a bad radiator that is clogged or leaking OR the water pump has gone bad. They do get old and need replaced over time. But if your fans are working properly, I would suspect it's the radiator or water pump. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing to our channel!

Hey I was wondering my driver's side fan is broken ...ad long as the passenger side one is on and working and it's winter can I run with one
@mikesbackyardmechanic
@mikesbackyardmechanic Жыл бұрын
Hello there! I believe that it may work as long as you keep the AC running (which controls the AC condenser fan). However, I would keep an eye on the engine temperature, you don't want to blow a head gasket. If you end up replacing the fan as per our video, I recommend replacing both fans at the same time since they are both probably needing replacement. Thanks for commenting and watching our channel. I have a honda CRV 2007; It has 2 fans ; Fan-1 on the driver seat side & Fan-2 on the passenger side ;; my driver seat side Fan (FAn-1) is not working when I start AC & I drive almost 35 kms;; is it normal? Fan-2 is always running (Even AC on / off & car in neutral position); Is it normal? Fan-1 will work only if the engine coolant is getting hooter? otherwise it will not work? (I read it is so as set on control system); please some one clarify me;;

Thanks for your comment. By your description it sounds like your fans are working as designed. Fan 1 should only come on when your A/C is turned on AND your coolant needs cooling. Fan 2 is usually always on. Is your A/C cooling ok?

Which is the Ac fan? driver or passenger side?
@mikesbackyardmechanic
@mikesbackyardmechanic 6 жыл бұрын
The condenser fan (A/C) fan is on the passenger side, and the radiator fan is on the driver side. I would recommend replacing both at the same time while you have it open since you can get both fans for a few dollars more. Hope it helps ;-)
