Guys I just did this mod today and I've got a couple of tips that might make life easier for those who plan on doing it as well. Get yourself a piece of 3/8" I.D. fuel hose (or any hose) about 2.5" long and shove it onto the threads on the fuel line side of the new CVD fitting when installing the one in the back. Kinda like when your installing spark plugs into a recessed cylinder head. This gives you more length to hold onto to get that fitting started. Then you don't have to worry about dropping it. It took all of 30 seconds to get it started. Also, buy a couple of extra of the Viton sleeves for the 1/4" fuel lines because I COULD NOT get that back fuel line started back onto the new CVD fitting. So I ended up removing the line from the truck and discovered a piece of the old Viton sleeve was still wadded up in the fuel line nut preventing me from getting it started with the new sleeve installed. There's literally no room back there while your laying on the engine and trying to dig that sleeve out with a pick. Once I removed the line from the truck and could actually look and see what I was doing, I got it out quickly. So in removing said line you'll need another Viton fitting to replace the one in the front at the fuel bowl. Also, snag a cheap package of vacuum line caps from Autozone or the like and slide one on the end of the fuel line when you're snaking the line back in the truck so you don't get a bunch of crap in the line while your shoving it through. The old sleeve at the front driver side cylinder head was a bear to remove as well but at least you have room (I had the alternator bracket leaning forward because I was doing the banjo bolts at the same time), so I didn't have to remove this line to get the remnants of the old sleeve out. I did the Riffraff banjo fittings, the FRX crossover, the stainless HPX line, and these CVD fittings all today and the truck runs fantastic. I can definitely tell it's running better. Great video and thanks for posting! Glad someone finally did.

I had the same problem with the old sleeve stuck on the back passenger side. Only part of it came out. It wasn't until I repeatedly fished around with a dental pick that I was able to get the rest of it out. Better yet buy the new fuel line for the passenger side and just replace the entire assembly and worry about the old sleeves being partially in there. It's cheap enough, comes with new viton sleeves and is it's a known wear and fail item. Part Number F81Z9B273BN. Of course, I didn't discover that until I had it all back together. Even better yet wait until you've got your turbo off and doing your EBPV delete and down pipes to mess with the (stupid) CVD.

The red line is what sends boost pressure to your turbo wastegate for it to open. You will either want it attached to your wastegate or plugged otherwise you'll be bleeding a little boost. Also, I know how much of a pain this project is. When I did my CNC kit is was pulling out and putting in fittings on all 4 corners of the heads. Plenty of extra stuff with the rest of the system too. Not a fun job. Also, I HATE those viton fittings haha. They are one of the main reasons I changed my whole system.

The red hose that is not connected needs to be re-attached. That is the pressure hose to open the Westgate to allow for excess pressure build up from the turbo to escape.

It also keeps from blowing the pistons out the oilpan. Hook the hose back up and adjust the linkage about 7 turns tighter and you'll have roughly 25psi boost before dump
@gprich82
@gprich82 2 жыл бұрын
The red tube is pressure off the intake I believe just after the intercooler. It is 1 if the two ways to open the waste gate to bleed turbo pressure. The other end runs off pressure from in the turbo housing itself. The mentions about turning up the preload 7 turns on the waste gate shaft are correct. Factory is set at 5-10psi for the bleed to start which is very low and robs power. Turning up to 15 psi is fine. 20 gets up there a little. The motor can handle about 40 psi stock. The reason for factory being set low is longevity. The less stress via prolonged high boost pressure makes the turbo, intercooler, fittings and boots etc etc last longer, but robs power early. I'm replacing my waste gate and I'll set mine to 15. When you put air to it, if it starts to open at 20psi air, then the waste gate opens at 20psi boost. If it moves at 15, it cracks at 15psi boost etc. Many guys have deleted this side because you still have the gate opening from turbo pressure. Is there harm in deleting it? Probably not. "Probably" being a key word to make your own decision by.

You can get huge gains by hooking your red line back to your wastgate actuator and tighten the linkage bout 7 turns that should give you roughly 25psi boost. You'll probably need to put bout 20psi air to actuator to hook it back up. It'll do wonders

I actually removed the vacuum wastewater actuator with a spring one, which is easy to set at your desired max boost. Works great.
@bondvagabond42
@bondvagabond42 Жыл бұрын
I think the red line activates the waste gate, so with it disconnected it's basically like have your waste gate always closed, if it were me, I'd hook it back up cause I don't know if having that leak will effect other sensors and stuff, having it open might effect the pressure inside the green line for instance. People mod the heck out of these 7.3's so no need to be the guinea pig trying new stuff, and maybe breaking something, when it's all been pretty well figured out, hah. My f550 sees maybe 10% paved roads, so I don't want to possibly suck any unfiltered air into my motor, we have a 500k mile motor, why kick it in the junk and make it wear out faster by sucking abrasive dust into it ya know?
@miles2008301
@miles2008301 4 жыл бұрын
That red tube sends your pressure of your turbo to the wastegate and once it’s to a certain pressure the waste gate opens and releases the pressure, so in your case you ether have a slight boost leak or it’s disconnected which means you might be overboosting your stock turbo which sounds cool it’s actually bad for it.
@NoHalfAss
@NoHalfAss 4 жыл бұрын

JMK glad I could help man! That’s why I make these videos🤘🏻 honestly I didn’t see any gains from this mod. Performance was super minimal and fuel economy didn’t seem to be affected at all. @@NoHalfAss I've got to say that Clay and Riff Raff are great!! But... (there's always a "but") in a perfect world there would be a much better warning about what us shade tree mechanics are up against for any of these mods. Wouldn't it be great if there was easy to read chart that ranked items on a handful of factors such as performance, reduced future maintenance (reliability) vs. ease of installation. There should also be flow chart of the order should do things. I'm pretty sure the CVD would be near the end of to do list. While I'm dreaming there should also be "while you've got all of this other stuff off now would be a great time to tackle this" list. Also... my hat is off to professional mechanics that wrench all day every day!

@@NoHalfAss the only hard part is removing the pipe plugs at the front passenger and rear driver fuel rails. You need a 1/4" pipe plug socket. Definitely don't attempt without the socket. If you start with a full selection of crow's feet, flex head ratchets (1/4 and 3/8), stubby's ratchets and open ends, u-joints, etc it'll be easier. For my mostly stock early 99 it was not worth it to me. Riff Raff is a great company but honestly this one should come with some warnings about how hard it is to get to. FYI: I'm not a professional mechanic, brakes jobs and alternators on my own stuff is the bulk of what I do.

I appreciate your enthusiasm in your projects! Thanks for sharing..... A thought on your boost pressures and waste gate actuator......so if you're only getting around 20-21 lbs of boost and your waste gate actuator is defeated, seems you should be making maximum boost? As you are not, I will suspect pressure loss. I'd start looking into that (Is your air filter clean?) and I would make the appropriate repairs for the waste gate actuator too. Good luck on the project....it is never ending!

By the way I had a hole in my down pipe on the driver side that I discovered while trying to do a specific mod. I was getting 20-21 psi, and then replaced that down pipe and jumped up to 24 psi. Getting 16 psi, I would start going through my engine and checking to make sure everything is working properly. Why does your truck have a glow plug relay similar to the 6.0 versus a normal 7.3 glow plug relay? Any of the 7.3s I have worked on have never had that. Also where did you get that stainless crossover I have hydraulic line crossover right now I would like to get a stainless one I plan on upgrading injectors and high pressure oil pump and low pressure oil pump

@@michaelstenli7123 from what I’ve been told it’s a California thing with the glow plug module on 7.3s vs the standard relay, so I’m not sure where you’re located but I guess here that’s what they have. The front I loosened both backets (for the alternator and a/c) and swapped them. I have discovered since that one of the old ones is missing a o-ring, so I'm not sure if one of them are double sealed or not. If it is I have a suspicion it's the drivers rear as I have had a fuel leak from there, just tighted up the banjo bolt and it quite. Are these the fuel rail fittings? I think the fitting is a bottle neck and in order to really get any increase there's a few fuel filters, one in the fuel tank pick up, not sure where the other is, then there's the fuel bowl filter, that can be removed along with a spring in the fuel bowl. You may seem fuel flow increase if you do those too. I really like the air dog fuel system and tank sump. Living on wheels did a good video for it and the harpoon mod. I think there's one other mod called the hutch mod that may help.

your oil seals are shot on your turbo, all that oil in your turbo outlet to the spider. you have a puddle in the passenger side pipe. also your pedestal must be leaking like crazy, so much oil all over your valley and boots. I bet your turbo wheel is coated and black. Rebuild the turbo and put in new o rings top and bottom and maybe even a pedestal may be warped or uneven mounting surface. then clean all your pipes, turbo, wheel, and boots. you will have better performance and I bet it will run better.

Plus it has a “no start” setting (like a kill switch) plus low idle, and high idle settings for faster warm ups. As far as CAI I’m still not fully there yet.
