Wow, great info. My 2002 chevy astro had the same symptoms as yours but I started to replace parts instead of diagnosing the problem. When it quit 6 weeks ago I used starter fluid to determine that I had spark and no fuel. So I replaced the fuel pump by cutting a hole in the floor to access it as I had a half tank of gas and no way of raising the van high enough . After that it ran for 6 or 7 days so I could finish a drywall job I was working on. Well it quit again (ruined the old battery by cranking to much so had to put in a new battery) and by watching you tube videos I started to throw parts at it as everyone had the solution. Because the new fuel pump was not working again I brought it back to the auto parts store and they replaced it no questions asked. Great warranty. But because of the end result the original replacement was probably still good. I started with a new coil, a new ignition control module, new crankshaft position sensor , new distributor with cap and rotor. Still no start. Watched more videos and saw that possibly all the grounds needed to be checked. I saw your video but oh well just another none solution so I thought. I was just about to replace the PCM computer as still no results. Then a few days later I saw your video again and remembered what you did. After a very frustrating day yesterday going over everything and then checking with a reliable local mechanic in the afternoon and quizzing him he said he could possibly look at it next week as he was swamped with repairs. Well here we go, I watched your video again and as a last resort what could I loose. Went and got some connecters and opened up the loom of wires just like you did and the rest is history. When i put the key in the ignition and turned it without cranking I had fuel gage now working and now a check engine light. Progress !!! Then went further and cranked it and IT STARTED ! Thank you so much for your knowledge. You saved me from going mad. This van has served me well for the last 15 years and I have been able to do all my own maintenance , but this last 6 weeks was a real challenge. Sorry for the long comment but I am truly grateful to you and thankful that you would share your experience. You have gained a subscriber.

Solved my issue! van has been sitting a year and this finally got her going. Cluster still has no data but man this helped so much.

will there be a tan and white wire for a 99 astro?

@ Gospel Ninja, I can't say for sure, I would suggest that you try to get a hold of the wiring diagram at the ECU for that year van, or if you look at my video at about the 3 minute mark, I'm holding the tan and white cluster for the ground wires that were the issue for me, you will need to remove the ECU from where its mounted in order to access those wires, and digital volt meter to test if you're getting 12v of ground with the ignition on at that location, if the wiring set up is the same or similar to mine's on that year van.. good luck, let me know how it goes...

It could be as simple as a blown fuse, bad fuel pump relay, burnt/shorted connector at fuel pump or issue with ECM..

How many ground wires did you splice into your new ground? Looks like 2 in the video just want to be sure. I have this exact issue except my check engine light is just dim but I cannot connect to obd then next day I can but I have no codes and no spark but all the components of ignition are new and getting power. Also is that in the left or right side ecm connector? Thanks

Hey Cody, in my video between minutes 2:27 to 2:32 I show the pic of the cluster where all the ground wires come together, 4 or 5 tan and white wires junction into one, and that is where I connected my new ground. you really don't need to remove the connectors, but you will need to remove the black cover over the ecm wires to get to it. Before doing that though, check to make sure you security light on the dash goes out when you turn the ignition on, if its stays on, it could possibly be the security system that has immobilized your ignition system, some issue with key or security system is the cause in that case. let me know if and when you get it going, good luck..

Thank you sir for the quick reply. When I key on the security light goes out rather quickly and I get battery voltage to my coil all the way to my distributor so I don’t believe security is the issue. I have replace the distributor twice with ac Delco with no fix. But I have no pulsing signal to my icm or anything in the ignition like I think I should. To my cam position sensor I get 8v reference and my 12v supply is about 1v lower than battery voltage, sometimes. The signal for cam pos sensor will be 8v one day and 2.5v the next. I assume back probing into the pcm connector to the ground wires to battery power will tell me if my issue is the same as yours? Of course with a volt meter. I have replaced and checked literally everything just like you have. Thank you

@@codygoins486You're welcome, and yes, back probe at the white and tan ground wires junction, you should get battery voltage, if not, then you have the same issue as I did. if so, you will need to run a new ground. Also does the check engine light illuminate when the ignition is keyed on? if no the ground issue could most definitely be the culprit, that was a symptom with mine also.

@Laurencemathew Riggs, I basically ran a new ground wire from the body of the van to junction of tan and white wires, at about the 3 minute mark in my video I'm holding on to the cluster of ground wires, also in the video I show the rough hook up between 3;15 and 3;32 mark.

@@thediyyardie7192 mi get a pulse at the distributor ,get a pulse at coil wire when disconnected,but not when connected,changed coil same thing no spark

@@rohanboswell5408 have you ran an OBD test? that should point you in the right direction, I don't like the idea of throwing parts at cars, loose or broken ground and wires at the connector can cause a lot of these issues. another possible cause of this issue is a bad crank position sensor, I would suggest checking the old one to see if its bad before replacing it though. keep in touch and let me know when you get it going.

@@rohanboswell5408 I had to end up getting the pin diagram for the ECM, I had almost the same issue with this van, tested and replace parts, but it ended up being a bad ground wire, not saying that is the issue with yours because your fuel pump you said is working, mine wasn't. also forgot to mention security system can cause no start issue too, the keys carry a chip..
