Our sunroof motor was also bad in addition to massive leaking onto the floor. Because we aren't sunroof people anyway we just permanently sealed the thing closed. Hasn't leaked a drop since and saved a huge amount of work.

thanks! I have a 2000 JGC with the same problem. Been looking at all the videos out there, and appreciate your advice on the size/materials to replace the hose.

Amy Thornton , you are very welcome. Glad to have helped you with a more permanent solution to the problem. The repair to my own 2001 JGC is trouble -leak free.

Your instructions are perfect, I went out and bought everything this morning to do this. Got home only to realize that I didn't have the right tool to remove the handle to get the trim piece off. I made 3 trips to town and back, 15 miles one way, and now have two sets of tools that are worthless to me. One is to small, the next one up is too large, in BOTH sets, metric and regular. And I STILL can't get the stupid thing off. Too angry to try anymore today. Sigh.

I would love to see you do it while you talk through it.. I had difficulty knowing how to do it without seeing it be done (taken out, and installing). Thanks for the ideas!

You just fit the pieces together and he shows you the ends. Should be plenty self explanatory after he’s told you what to get.

Wow, this is the best video yet. I am going to take the tubing back to ace hardware. You waterline tubing looks much more durable. Also the black heater hose is great fit! I am glad that the blue tube is good starting from the dash. I was all worried about running the tubing all the way down to the floor, take the glove compartment out, the rug, etc wow! I was hoping the tubing going to the floor might be good, because the sun is what does the damage. The blue tube that was not exposed should be good. Hopefully, i will see. You literally saved me. I dont have to unscrew the computer? I didn't see a need for it, just the handle bars and viser. I will do both sides. I couldn't really see the connection. In the roof just the white tubing, it was a little dark. I am sure I will fiqure it out. I wish you had video for rhe back hose, as I am sure they are not in the best condition if the front is any indication! But I can always use your method, find the connection in the back and go from there. Thank you so much for this video!! 🤔😃🙏

Just a helpful tip. Silicone doesn't stick to epdm rubber. You are better off using 3M Black Weatherstrip Adhesive. Can be found at any automotive part store. Box looks like a toothpaste tube box.

warren763, I used silicone and haven’t had any issue whatsoever. The parts I specified fit so well that any sealant is better than no sealant. Being that you’re talking about your own vehicle, use whatever works for you.

I know this video is form 2017. But if you happen to see my comment, can you let me know how to take the bracket out, it seemed hard. I guess I can slide the water line tubing though ? I am doing this in the next couple days thank you.

Hello, I was reviewing the video again as I am attempting this today.. I am so sorry I didn't see your answer as I put off the truck. I covered it and now I am going to attempt this. What I was referring to was the black plastic clamps. Do I use the needle nose and pull in straight out? Also do I have to slide the seat belt down to loosen it up? Thank you very much. 🌻

So you mentioned the drinking straw repair guy and told us how horrible the blue ribbed factory tubing is and then you repaired only the portion of the hose that led to the dash. Due to the most important electrical connection being on the driver’s side near the dash, wouldn’t it be best to make the job complete by replacing the tubing from sunroof to drain and show us how? Also, for the tubing, wouldn’t it be best to replace with clear tubing to quickly locate any stoppage if it needs future replacement?

Obviously, all repairs are different. I showed what worked for my particular situation and that repair is still working today with zero leaks. You also have the personal choice to do whatever you want to do and use whatever material you wish to use in your repair. Since the tubing is covered, I hardly see the value in using clear tubing. The existing tubing never clogged up, so why would a replacement?

Are you sure you got the rubber tube from Home Depot? I’m here and can’t find it anywhere

Dustin Smithson .. watch my vid again. I didn’t say that I got the black rubber hose at Home Depot. I said get the rubber tubing from your local auto parts store. I went to the local Advanced Auto Parts store.

Unfortunate for me my blue hose is cracked between the dash
@K1Woody
@K1Woody 6 жыл бұрын
iphone3gsdivine if your blue hose is cracked down through behind the dash, I’d push the new white tubing (that I recommended in my video) down to the floor board and remove whatever lower plastic panel you need to in order to gain access to the remaining blue tubing that’s garbage and just yank it all out. Then just use the white tubing straight through from your sunroof drain to the lower floorboard area in order to direct it outside. That’ll permanently handle the problem by just getting rid of all the blue tubing. Good luck!

I haven’t got that far to test the tubing by the dash but within the next few days I’ll be find out for sure.

You let it dry overnight? You let *what* dry?
@K1Woody
@K1Woody 6 жыл бұрын
bammbamm12 - I let the silicone that I used as a sealant harden, solidify - dry etc. Use whatever word you want to use to describe the silicone going from a liquid to a solid state. You need silicone to insure your repair is complete with no clamps needed. That what I said during my video, “no clamps needed”.

OK thanks - I just came to the realization (after taking the panels off, etc.) that it's not my sunroof - it's the seal around the windshield across the top front. The body has a little rust on top and it's leaking straight through :)
@K1Woody
@K1Woody 6 жыл бұрын
bammbamm12 I’d hate that to happen. Rust is a bitch to handle when it’s near the seal. Good luck with that
