They are am odd but simple design. Correct adjustment is critical for proper operation though.

I need to check my deck adjustment next spring, my belt slips off sometimes when I disengage it. Almost the same model as that one. And I like seafoam too it does work. Great video. 👍 😊

Maybe the engine running well after the new fuel/SeaFoam treatment was as simple as a missed emulsion tube hole with a small amount of varnish that the SeaFoam dissolved. We’ll never know! 😂👍

Could very well be. Seafoam has worked like that in the past for me.

When you said there was no backlash on the intake valve. I thought the top valve would be the intake since it was in line with the carburetor.

The intake runner drops down 45* across the head and runs on the bottom valve in this case Bill.

Why those particular engins sound so smooth compared to the newer engins to me the new engins are rough sounding

There's less moving parts in these. Even smoother running engines are the Briggs 2 cylinder horizontally opposed engines.

would you happen to have any tips on tuning a carb on a John Deere 111? it has a air to fuel mix and idle screw but it also has a needle on the bottom of the carb you have to adjust. I couldnt find anything online. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Ah, a classic JD 111. There are a few around me for sale. Good old machines! The idle speed screw is obvious. The mixture screw on the side is for idle fuel mixture, so from idle up to about 1/4 throttle is usually affected by this adjustment. Slowly tighten it till it surges at idle, then open it till it stops surging. The adjustable main is a RARE thing to see any more, that one is adjusted at wide open throttle when the engine is hot. Tighten it up slowly till it surges a little, then open it back up about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. That's usually where they work the best.
