It’s sad that this was the last NFC Championship Game with Pat Summerall and John Madden.

These two met in the season opener of 2001 (right before 9/11 broke the world) with the Rams barely beating the eagles as well in that matchup. This was right after the Pats beating a Kordell Stewart-led Steelers just hours before, which initially seemed like a fluke to me - of course, I was a ten year old kid so what did I know. The boys and I in the 4th grade were hubristically expecting it to be the Rams vs Steelers in Super Bowl XXXVI. After Pittsburgh had been defeated in the AFC championship, I was convinced that this game was essentially the Super Bowl, that whoever won between PHI and STL would be Champions by the end. Even the week leading up to the big game I don’t think I remember anyone believing that St Louis would lose to New England. The owner of the Rams supposedly was even making special arrangements for the championship ring that they were supposed to have from the victory that wasn’t to be. Beware of Hubris: or else the Gods will show you who’s in charge

I'm an Eagles fan, and I remember the Patriots playing the Rams on a Sunday night game mid-season, probably week 9ish. It was a close game and the Patriots fought valiantly but lost, the Rams were the class of the NFL in my mind, and seeing the Payriots play them that clIse convinced me that the Patriots were a legit contender. I was the guy who told people that the Patriots were gonna beat the Rams in that super bowl. But I was a 16l5 year old kid, so no one remembers but me. My picks were always on point back then. I picked the Titans to win in 99 and they came 1 yard short(I picked them at the start of the Playoffs) and I told everyone that whoever won the Ravens/Titans playoff game in 2000 was winning the super bowl and was spot on. Wish I could bet sports back then. I'm rarely tight now.

That 2001 year that Philly and Pittsburgh both lost their championship games. Steelers would lose again in '04 while Philly won their championship game and went to the Super Bowl. In '08 Philly lost their championship game while Pittsburgh won theirs and went to the Super Bowl

The Eagles at least made it to the NFC championship game 4 seasons in a row from 2001-2004. They lost to the good but not special Carolina Panthers in 2003. They lost to historically great teams in the other 3 seasons. The 2001 Rams are easily one of the 10 best offenses ever. They lost to the Bucs in ‘02 who had one of the 10 best defenses ever. Finally, they lost to the Patriots in ‘04 who were the best Patriots team to win the Super Bowl and a top 10 team of all time.

@joshlight68922 ай бұрын
This was a helluva game, McNabb and the Eagles were young and hungry and playing with house money here, nobody really expected them to win. But the Rams were basically at their peak here, but you could argue this was kind of the last hurrah of the Greatest Show on Turf. The Rams turned the Eagles back in this one, but then went on to blow the Super Bowl against the Pats. That was pretty much the end of the Greatest Show on Turf era. They went on to go 6-10 in 2002. They had a decent year in 2003 with Marc Bulger at QB but were still a shadow of what they were a couple years before.

I don’t know which NFC loss hurt more this one or the Bucs the next season. That opening drive fumble hurt & who knows what happens with fate. Always hoped McNabb/Dawkins would have won 1 title.
@bahgawd8158 Жыл бұрын
This one hurt but no where near the loss against the Bucs. We were at home..last game at the vet. It was really cold n the Bucs never won a game in below freezing temperatures. Not to mention we beat the hell out of them in the playoffs the previous 2 seasons. Everything perfectly lined up. So that loss was devastating imo.

McNabb was si underrated
@bahgawd8158 Жыл бұрын
@@andrehenderson1487 He was definitely a damn great Eagles QB! It's a shame that I think he held a grudge against the fans for booing him at the draft. They weren't booing him they were booing the fact that everyone wanted Ricky Williams and didn't draft him. Idc who the Eagles would've drafted instead of Williams...they would've booed them just as much. But yeah because of that imo he never really connected with the fans.

@@bucsredsoxredwings Youre right but I don't think it was below freezing because if I recall correctly up until you beat the Eagles you guys still didn't win a game in below freezing Temps. I will say this, after that game..I've never believed in homefield advantage anymore. Because there wasn't a bigger home field advantage than what the Eagles had that day. And they lost
