Thanks for the video man! That jack of yours is perfect for this application! I need to figure out a bracket for my standard floor jack to help me do this. Picked up a F350 with a 40 gallon tank. She loses a lot of power on the top end so Im thinking its fuel related. This video is going to help me out a lot!

@@DeWaltManZ you are certainly welcome. And yep that old school jack comes in handy. Screens clogging and pick up foot falling off are common problems. Hit me up if any questions. Happy to try and help. Appreciate the comment and thanks for watchin

I gotta do this to assess the ratio of old diesel to water in the tank on my project, and to repair the road salt rotted tank straps, hah. If it's Sunday night in a small town, and everything is closed, but you don't have a fuel line disconnect tool, you can use about an inch of the cap from an original size sharpy marker, you cut the bottom 1" off, and slit up the side, so you can slip it over the line. I use a pair of needle nose pliers but not to pinch, just to evenly push on both sides of the cap, some vehicles it's tough to get the old fingies in there. I'm sure lots of other random junk works, but the original style sharpy cap is a good model for figuring out which piece of garbage near you might work in a pinch, hah.

That’s a great idea. I love hearing on the field improvising. Any fool can fix something in the shop with thousands of dollars of tools but making it happen without all that is a skill.

Great video, very informative. I just got my 1st 7.3 f550 (2002) to use as a farm truck. Dropping the tank next week to diagnose a leak and I have tubing and unions so I will give this a go. Any idea if the fuel sender unit is the same on mine?
@bayoudiesel7 ай бұрын
Should be very similar. 450’s & 550’s are both cab and chassis so should be very close
@1BigYin7 ай бұрын
@@bayoudiesel It appears to be the exact same, thank you.

Why not just remove the screens and put it back together instead of fabing up that extension ?

@@Trail0 I like doing it this way because I see quite often that the black foot disintegrates and falls off leaving you sucking air when you hit 1/4 tank. This mod allows you to kill 2 birds with one stone.

When I disconnect the fuel lines to I need to release fuel pressure first
@bayoudiesel Жыл бұрын
It’s best if you do. But also depends on what side of the pump you are on. Before pump has no pressure but after can so I will crack the drain valve on the fuel bowl and drain some diesel. You will need to prime the fuel system when you are done by cycling the key to on for 30 sec at a time for 3-5 times to burp the air out of the fuel system. Depends on what you are working on but that should help ya. Thanks for watching.
