2002-2004 dodge neon. Transmission slipping, shifting issues.

Transmission slipping, only first gear and maybe reversed. Swap out transmission or scrap the car.

I bought mine at 134,00 it lasted to 250,000 I didn't think I'd love a neon but it's a super fun little car❤

Well, I am experiencing similar problems and looking for a fix on here, check engine says tcm, so I figure may as well attempt changing that out

Yeah, try that. Replace that transmission control module

A connector for my alternator melted and when I went to disconnect it it crumbled in my hand, I replaced this and my problem went away

When I put my 2003 Dodge neon into a gear any gear I goes into the gear but all of them won't go it like the park pinis still In.

That is your overdrive band! You see how your shifter indicates O around D? Someone couldve tightened a boot for that band! Vandalism possibly? Anyhow mine with all emissions sensors being changed its not fuel i dont believe yet many are saying MAF but its new so,has to be a transmission. Its fine before 19-20 and after! But im wondering if the previous owner put the wrong fluid in!?!

What's happening when I am moving forward, push the gas and suddenly no force is exerted, I move the shifter back and forth, then it goes normally again?

Try replacing the Selenoid, but youll have to drop the trans pan to get to it

I’m having to crank mine up and let it warm up for 3 or 4 minutes before it will go into gear. Or if I just put it in drive and give it gas it’ll slam into gear. Any ideas?

Had the fluid ever been changed? How many miles, 200k? Might be worn out. Filter plugged up?

@Omnissiah_Latino replace the shift valves. Or swap out the transmission but that cost more.

@jrfmechanical3058 my neon 2005 make the same , but the odometer is bouncing side to side, 2nd gear is the maximum shift, you think is shift valves as well?

@Omnissiah_Latino sounds like the gears for that speedometer is bad or the sensor that reads the speedometer is worn out.

Did my shift solenoid and it fixes the issue.

@@jrfmechanical3058 I replied through the comment email but idk if it works. I had the same issue going up the mountain, rode it for 20mi while not shifting(limp home mode I think) then the car(04 dodge neon sxt) overheated in the desert, got back home after the cool down replaced it then it worked for 3 month. "Now I need advice🙏", but I kid you not. Yesterday I went into drive after starting, drove it down the road then it slipped into neutral automatically not even 10mph kept revving slightly, bites "like a clutch" it moves for a bit then neutral again? I don't know what the prob could be.
