What a good teacher. Its not as easy as it looks especially with wind and tide. I have seen experienced captains come unstuck.

Excellent instruction, and technique. A windy day is the best day to practice because you learn to handle the boat while it is fighting you just a bit.

Great video and instructor. I have a 42 Sea Ray and tend to leave in gear too long when backing into my dock. I like your advice about shifting to neutral when you see the bow or stern start to move and wait. Patience is definitely important.

True ,even though we could not see the sticks being engaged, we could always be clear on what exactly is being asked in regards to engine inputs /gear changes.

This is fascinating to watch. Good job skipper. This is NOT easy, serving cocktails to your guests is easy. This is the hard part. Impressive with the wind blowing like it was. I have an 18' boat so what do I know? Nothing.

@@AltitudeMotorYacht Learn how to walk the boat if you really want to impress people... As a Captain I've walked a lot of vessels from barges to 120' sternwheelers and the 92' ex-presidential Yacht Honey Fitz. Does your boat have a bow thruster? If so you will not need it when you learn to walk your boat into and out of the tightest slips. I have never operated a vessel that had an operating bow thruster!!! Ask your instructor about walking, once you learn this you be King of the dock as you will have total control of your boat and be able to put it in the tightest places and impress even the most salty boater... Look it up, You can even walk sideways while maintaining forward headway. Poor deckhand on the head of a 4 barge string while I was walking the string to port. He kept pointing at the dock like I was going to miss it, called on the radio 3 times to verify the dock we had to put these barges on. Then he realized that we were sliding at an angle as the distance between the dock and barges closed and I killed the headway. Captain Ron (Really).

Good video. I run a twin screw as well. Gotta say I never ever shift with my throttles in any position other than full back idle. If I need the extra push I apply the throttle after the shift

Hi Ryle, I agree, only use throttles when the wind kicks up an pushes the boat more sideways.

So I'm looking at my first two engine yacht, A 3555 Avanti and it looks like it has just the throttle and shifters in one unit, is this going to be too hard for me for a starter yacht? Not to have separate units like you have here? Thanks

They should install joystick docking to make it easier. Even a 12 year old girl can dock it.

Very well done.It was very useful. I learned a few things. I wish I could have seen your hands. I also saw that you have the engines engaged ever so slightly. Answered a question I had about how you maintained momentum. Gorgeous ship BTW. I have my eyes on one.
