What was the recognised and given name for this period? Because it wasn’t grime, the name grime really came around 2004. These times in 02 I heard so many different names flying around for this, each side of London had a different form garage style, I heard names like eski-beat, dark garage, sub-low, some even just called it garage at the time, sometimes depending on the bar format it would be called (for example) 4 bar…was there ever a name that actually stuck and dominated before it all just got referred to as grime?
