2002 Ford Focus Stuck in Park, how to get it out.

OMG, you are a lifesaver! I have a 2001 Ford Escort that refused to shift from park to drive this morning. I was almost in tears thinking about how I was going to pay a shop bill, especially since my husband passed away on Labor day and my only income went bye-bye! Since mine only had a small hole beside the shifter I took a long flat head screwdriver and was able to get the shifter unlocked, not sure if mine use to have a screw you could turn or not, either way your video was extremely helpful, thank you!

What do you do if that button with the screwdriver broke? My friend said she used that button a few times and the last time she didn’t do anything different and it just broke

jaime gentile it did it to my 06 it means it tail lights might be out check those plus u have to push just enough to hard it won't work

I tried this and it works until I out it in park again and then it still gets stuck. What do you recommend me doing so I don't have to do this every time my car won't shift?

For a while I had to do this every time I needed to get out of park also, eventually I did have not to do it any longer, not sure what happen. I suspect there is a part that can be replaced but I never looked into it. Please note I no longer have this car.

I know I'm late but for me it was just the fuse for the breaklights.check the break lights if they are not working I bet it's the fuse. Fixed mine same issue.2002 Ford focus zts
