All student capes had stars. It was a creative liberty LEGO took. In fact, most of the designs in these sets were only inspired by the films rather than a faithful reproduction.

I looked back at this video to see if I could come to a conclusion which 1x2 bricks were a part of the early 2000's sets. I'm currently rebuilding Dumbledore's Office, and it's actually funny looking at the sealed bags of parts when you opened the box. If anyone is wondering, Lego mixed both versions of the 1x2 mold together in the set... so I guess I'm being too OCD for nothing. You can see that some of them have solid peg supports underneath, and others have the center hole in the support peg. From now on, Im personally determining that as long as the logo and the condition of the brick look old, it's probably old haha.

I just completed this set minus one brick, the two keys, and the three minifigs, all of which i found inside a toolbox in plastic bags, which i bought for mere $6(converted), from a second-hand flea market shop. I consider myself lucky for this find, and that being a Potter fan myself.
