When you are applying vacuum to a EGR valve you should only apply as much as the EGR solenoid usually supplies. In this case about 8 to 10 inches of vacuum. Also if you are unsure about egr flow being sufficient , watch your map sensor at the moment that you open the valve , look for a minimum 6 inch vacuum drop in the manifold. Great video and thanks for sharing

Thanks for the reply! I definitely like using map sensor voltage as a guide to EGR flow, especially on systems without any sort of EGR position sensor. Unfortunately that technique can't be used on this vehicle, as there is not a MAP sensor equipped. As for the vacuum level applied to open the valve, I agree too much vacuum could potentially cause issues. I looked up a flowchart for this particular vehicle, and the manufacturer is recommending 10" hg to manually open this valve, spot on to your recommendation. In the video I applied around 20" hg, which is clearly more then the valve would normally see, and my reasoning for doing so as because I wasn't receiving the response I was looking for (stalling). Will definitely keep this in mind in the future to avoid potentially damaging one! Thanks for watching and your input!

Good comment and video. Could you not have just used an intake port and vacuum gauge instead of the MAP voltage to determine flow? Alternatively, if you connected your vacuum gauge to the DPFE hose that connects to the section of pipe between the EGR and restriction, would you not see the back pressure go into a vacuum as you slowly increase throttle (e.g. as the EGR opens)? I think that this too would verify flow.

Yep, monitoring vacuum through an intake port could absolutely give you an indication of EGR flow, but we really didn't need to do that. Actuating the valve and listening for the idle to destabilize is usually sufficient.

Nice thorough video on Ford Egr. Believe it or not I've been in the business for 15 years and haven't had to deal with dpfe at all. Not sure why with all the problems I've seen other guys such as yourself have with them but it is what it is I guess. LoL

I just changed my DPFE sensor on my 02 LS. Not because I got a trouble code, but because I was checking the hoses attached and snapped the plastic port off. That was only another hundred bux !

Exactly what happened to my 02 🤦🏽♂️

The time it takes a mechanic to do all this shit would cost more than just replacing the entire system lol.

"that lovely little Amber indicator..." AKA, money light, but not in this case sadly. Your truck didn't stall at 100% either I see. Regarding circuit integrity, Could you have done a bypass test on the DPFE sensor wiring? Test light to batt positive and touch sensor wire while monitoring for PID to go to 5V? Sorry, trying to learn.

Can you assist in finding the egr adaptor? I was advised that mine needs replacement on my 2000 Lincoln LS. It fits on a 2000-2002 LS V8.

Just curious how you determined the EGR valve should have changed the voltage on the sensor when it’s already closed for present situation.? I agree that the valve itself failed and should have opened at 3lbs negative.

I have code P1409 on a 02 ls 3.9l. EGR Solenoid circuit. On the testing of the wiring to the solenoid. My signal stayed on, it did not pulse. I am assuming since it's a switched circuit, does that mean the computer is shot on that circuit? Interested in your opinion. Thank you.

first off I absolutely love your videos. You have been added to my slim list of favorites. Here's the dumb question of the day for you...How did you know the second wire (brown with yellow tracer)was a ground without seeing the 5v reference on the 3rd and final wire? It showed 12v on your meter. Excuse my ignorance. Thank you.
@pinpointautomotiverepair15927 жыл бұрын
Hey friend i'm glad you are enjoying my vids! The reading on the meter at the point was 12.1mv, not volts, that's probably where the confusion came from. My early videos didn't have the same video quality as my new ones, so the small mv indicator on the screen is somewhat hard to see. Thanks for watching!
