Bought a new 2001 and rode it for more than a decade. Dailey driver. Still gets my love. Parked in my shop next to my 1950 pan I bought in 1972.. My wife's favorite. A sweet ride. Nothing like it available today.

My father rides this bike, a model from 2000-2001 i think, and has been riding since he was sixteen, and he is 61 now. He swears by this bike up and down, and Moto Guzzi in general. We once took an unlucky dive on it, and the bike didn't give one damn. The paint got scratched up, a peg got bent a little, and i belive a handlebar got a little bent too. He had a spiral break on his legbone, but the damn bike brought us home as well without giving a single damn about it, and he rides it to this day. On my fathers behalf i say it's a recommended purchase for sure :)

I just bought a 2001 model for $3800 and it absolutely blows away the Sportster and Bolt easily. Much more comfortable, great styling for an older bike, and saved me a lot of pain in the pocketbook!!

A good video but why give it a 6 for performance when this is what it is not designed for, the Guzzis performance is a clear 9 as it performs to its category superbly...You can't beat a Guzzi..

and he forgot to mention the amazing handling....jumped from 30+ years on many Ducatis and could not believe how fast you can put this thru the twistys and embarrass your mates. Onto my second Cali.

I have a '98 Cali EV that I bought in 1999. I love it. I had it re-mapped, look the top off the air filter & put Lafranconis on it (plus a H-pipe in place of the colostomy bag), getting the power up (on the dyno) from 60 BHP as standard at the back wheel, to 80. It really shifts now. However: I wouldn't give it 9/10 for comfort. The rider's seat is fine, but the pillion seat is torture after a short distance, very little padding at all.

The crankshaft runs front to back, and that makes the Guzzi a longitudinal engine. Harleys, etc are transverse engines.

Thanks for posting this Vid. I am researching used Moto Guzzi's I have the 1999 v11 Bassa, Did you know the v11 engine put out more horse power and torque than a Harley Davidson Twin Cam 88ci ( 1450cc ) engine? amazing!

I saw this bike for under 3k. Yet it seems more powerful than say a 883 sportster or even the new Yamaha bolt. Those others are 6k to 10k. Am I missing something?

I’ve got a 2001 EV Touring. Paid $2000 US for it. 44,000 miles. The thing is bulletproof. Never a stumble or hiccup. Gets about 45 mpg and very comfortable. My only complaint is a previous owner must have left it out in direct sunlight and the Speedo/ tach needles are faded to the point they’re almost useless. Any idea about getting the plastic off so I can repaint them? I don’t want to ruin the Speedo.

@@swisher14 did 60,000 on my first but sank her in the floods. Let her go. Second one 45,000 and never had an issue except for a leaking rocker cover gasket. Big story, my 1100 was underwater for two days. Headlight was half full of water, turned on the ignition and the headlight came on. Hit the starter and vroom she started instantly, crazy. Amazing engine. Only ran her for 20 seconds or so. Tank was full of water, engine block full of water as was gearbox. Could not believe how many litres came out of her. Did 3 oil changes on everything and still running strong. Also had a V7 that was lying on her side in the mud for three days, and she is still going great, needed a new starter motor as it was full of fine mud. Guzzis go forever.

I bought a 1100 California with 12000 miles last year. It was a garage queen and had many extras added. Has a custom seat made by a company that makes aircraft upholstery. My only complaint is buffeting and I wonder if the seat being higher than the original is the cause or do all these bikes produce that same effect?

Great bike and a very good video. I'm picking one of these up shortly. The gear you are wearing goes very well with the bike. Do you mind telling what you are wearing top to bottom. Thanks

Good review, but for style think it’s an 11 out of ten: other cruisers copy Harley; Harley just brings out new iterations of itself; but Guzzi California’s are not trying to be anything but themselves. They aren’t perfect, but they are authentic and they are wonderful imho.

Why do they play crappy music on these videos ? what does it achieve ? I would like to hear what the gentleman has to say than be annoyed by music ... ruins what is an informative presentation

For those who are interested, Guzzi is pronounced, ‘Gutsy’. Ironic, isn’t it?
