I had two 986 first generation (1997 and 1999). Still initial IMS and bullet proof. It is wonderful to see a beautiful lady presenting her experience with the car that helped saving Porsche and assured the longevity of iconic 911. Looking forward to your next reports. Drive them. Hard 😊

I’m now thinking you must be a professional presenter as your expertise in front of camera is first class I’ve changed the gearbox/ transaxle oil on mine and although a few braces and covers need removal it’s extremely satisfying when done Another great watch / listen even after nearly 10 years boxster ownership Well done

Thank you so much for the compliment! It really does feel great when you’re able to fix and replace things on the car. I had a previous bad experience with Porsche service and after that we decided to work on our cars as much as possible.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Gorgeous color. I changed the break fluid on my 1999 Boxster that I bought 1 year ago almost immediately. I have not changed the IMS bearing and will continue monitoring the oil regularly. So far, oil change has been the only expense (knock on wood). I recommend to use the Porsche leather conditioner as it leaves no residue. More expensive, but less product needed. Enjoy the car!

Thank you! Hope you can find a hardtop. It really does change the look of the car and extends the time I can use it because of the rear defroster. As long as there is no salt on the road, I'll drive it in the winter.

The hardtop option is nice to have for winter driving , how much do they cost new ? How many miles on this Boxster , and did you have it Pre- purchase inspected ?

It has 112k miles. We did not have it pre-purchase inspected but my husband did a pretty thorough check. In terms of the hardtop, I don’t know what they cost, but you may find a used one on eBay or Craigslist. This one came with the car.

That is a nice car, looks well maintained. Be warned that this Boxster the 986 with the M96 engine can hide a lot of risk. I know you said you checked the oil for "glitter" to confirm the IMSB is not bad, but it can still fail without. Also this version the 986 (1997-2004) all have the M96 5 chain engine. You should have the Variocam chain tensioner pads replaced if your car has over 75,000.00. I have a 2001 Boxster S with 117,000 miles that was running great but both the IMSB and the pads were just waiting to fail. Also note that 2001 and later 986 all have the single row IMSB which are the higher risk of failure.

Great Video, is the 986 the only Boxster that had an optional roof? I could not find if it was an option on the 987, 981 or 718?

Is your Boxster the 2.7 Auto ? Is the hardtop a aftermarket product ?

Yes, that’s correct, 2.7 auto. The hardtop is factory.

I get around 20 MPG around town and 26 MPG on the highway. Hope that helps!

If all it needed was tires and oil change, you’re laughing. Great colour, nice break from boring gray, black, or white. Too bad it’s a tip, but if that’s what you wanted, all the better. Good luck with it.

What a lovely looking 986. Nice colour, you don't see it often. The hardtop looks great but.... it's a Boxster, the top has to go to really enjoy the experience. I have a sweet, silver 987S. I hope you get half the pleasure from yours that I'm getting from mine. I'll subscribe and watch how you go.

Hello AL .... Lovely 02 boxster that hard top looks absolutely fantastic .... I used to own a 99 boxster base auto in silver and it was a great little sports car .... I paid $9,000 for mine put about a grand into it did all the work myself and sold it for $11,800.
