Does the tag axle automatically lift during sharp turns? How much of a difference does this make in turn radius?

There’s a lever you flip manually. And it’s not that big of a difference in radius. It really just help prevent you from balding the tag tires faster than usual. MCI (newer versions) steer as well when turning
