Hard to believe Tiger wouldn't win another major for close to 3 years after this one. I know the swing coach/change was the big reason, but still Tiger was so dominant at this point, it seemed like he could just accidentally win a major or 2 during that drought.

That look on Tiger's face at 38:25 is the look of raw determination. Back in the late 1990's, early 2000's whenever you saw that look on Tiger's face you might as well pack your clubs and head to the house, because there wasn't a man on the face of the Earth who could have beaten him back then whenever he had that look. He was a a beast in his prime. I still remember the 2000 US Open like it was yesterday...... THAT performance was the biggest bloodbath in the PGA's history when he dominated so badly that he finished 15 holes ahead of 2nd place. It wasn't even close. He had that look that day as well.

I consider the 2002 US Open as a classic, for the very simple reason that it is the 1st time, I believe, that a major was played in a public golf course. I could be wrong. But it once more signified that golf can, and will be on a another level of acceptance by the people who once considered it an elitist game. And for Tiger Woods to win it, not by a mile, but in close contention with the best in the field, is truly remarkable. The field did not give him an inch, some commented he was lucky, to me, he's just that good. When pressure is on him, he switches to the next gear. He's got a lot of reserve.

Sergio 23 dips at the ball before hitting.
@airplanegirl01

I'm not sure what you call what Sergio does when addressing the ball. But I call it waggling. It seems he waggles somewhere between 20 and 30 seconds before striking the ball. And it seems he concentrates more on his waggling, than his line. Later in his career, he got rid of that excessive waggling, and became much better at hitting the ball where he wanted it to go. I know he was a Seve fan, and Seve did waggle before his shots, but I think that Sergio should have never tried to copy Seve's waggle.
@jeffreyval9665
@jeffreyval9665 4 жыл бұрын
he wasnt copying Seve he just couldn't get comfortable with his grip. I went thru the same thing and it was really a pain in the ass. I couldn't imagine being a pro and having to deal with that.

Jv woods Same here. I’ve had this problem for two months now, and it just came out of nowhere. It’s a mental block and will flare up during a round or just be there from the first warmup swing. I have to force myself to a stronger grip and to make a simple takeaway, but sometimes I JUST CAN’T DO IT. It’s getting better, though, but I kinda feel for Sergio here, even if it’s annoying to watch.

Tiger had the career that Phil otherwise would have had if Tiger never existed. As it is, Phil has 45 Tour wins and 6 majors competing during Tiger’s reign. It isn’t a stretch at all to think Phil would have had Tiger-like numbers if Tiger had never been on the scene.

But still had the Titleist small headed 3 wood. surprised he never snapped the heads off of those clubs. 1:36:52 Lefty being the consummate pro but behind that smile, sick of runner up speeches/how can I beat this guy. then next year he dropped the inferior equipment comment, Lol. thus the stern rivalry emerged. hey man, ya gotta do something ;) This Open was what? The galleries here, shout and scream wildly, immediately after just about every shot. They have no clue whether it’s a really good shot, in terms of where it’s going, or where it finishes. No true knowledge or appreciation of the game of golf, the complete opposite of the British Open fans, who only applaud really well executed golf shots, and show deserved respect to these great players. I suppose it’s to be expected when on the PGA Tour, you will often hear the irritating comments such as: “You’re the Man” or “Get in the Hole”.
