Thanks so much for the video. Changed mine on a 2003 Silverado regular cab and the measurements worked out perfectly. My ring was rusted and stuck, but after soaking in wd-40 for a while i got it loose and replaced it, too. Screwed down the door, a little silicone and perfect! I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I had 1 to 2 hours in the whole project from start to finish, spent most of the time trying to get the ring off. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For $150 I did it myself! My local mechanic wanted $800 (in Indiana) and $150 to tow the truck 3 miles to his shop. Hey man, thanks again!!!👍👍

@nathaniscool26, your video is one of the very best videos I've seen yet giving the details where to cut the fuel pump access hole in the bed of your truck, great job. I'm retired and you saved me from crawling under my truck to get measurements, thank you very much. Several years ago after dropping the fuel tank on a 88 GMC 4X4 pickup to replace the fuel pump, I said to myself that'll be the last time I replace the fuel pump the hard way, every truck that I've owned since then, including the 88 GMC 4X4, I've cut out a fuel pump access hole, with the two cross-cuts being down the center of the u-channel so I could use self starting screws to secure the cut-out section, I didn't bother to silicone around the cuts, being that I had a bed-liner that covered the hole area. I've also learned over the years you get what you pay for with the cheap Chinese in-tank fuel pumps, but I've also had a new AC Delco fuel pump, (88 GMC 4X4), and Delphi fuel pump, (90 Chevy single cab short-bed), to be bad from the get-go as well. I like the Delphi fuel pumps better than the AC Delco pumps, they seem to be built with better quality materials. Now I'm fixing to cut a hole to R&R the fuel pump on my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT 4-door extended cab w/6.5ft bed, I'm installing a Delphi fuel pump (that must be made out of gold going by the price these days), $250 bucks including the DC & state mafia's cut in taxes, and I darn sure wouldn't spend $406+ bucks for a AC Delco cheap looking fuel pump.

I just wanted to let you know that this video was a huge help it was by far the best most informative and clearly done video for this method of replacing the fuel pump I watched and I have watched a ton I was able to use your measurements and got the pump replaced in my 2000 regular cab short box Silverado this afternoon thank you very much for making this video it really was a huge help!

My buddy did this about 16 years ago when his fuel pump went out at a campground we were at. I thought it was genius. This video is great. Might save someone a lot of hassle some day.

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this video!!! Your measurements were spot on correct and made the job so much easier. Ive been turning wrenches all my life and have seen alot of short cuts over the years that were total junk but this one is the best Ive seen Thank you again so much !!!!

The only way I would do the tank drop would be if I had a lift I just could not see myself on my back and that thing on the ground it would just be a mess. Besides I had a lot of gas in my tank. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!

Should be standard for all trucks to have access panel for fuel pump.
@cedarsland2 ай бұрын
Smart idea about using the panel back on the chassis I've done this on a Ford Taurus I've done it on a Chrysler minivan and I used to have a 2002 GMC Sierra but not as clean as your job because I did not want to use grinder

Every job I did I used a fancy snipper because I don't use discs that cause flames, afraid of explosion if the tank is leaking

In some countries, this is done on 2nd gen Toyota Siennas all the time.
@commonsensesolutions66622 жыл бұрын
I guess it’s not just a Chevy thing 👍🏻 The manufacturers really should have designed a simple access plate there since they put the pump inside the tank. Thanks for watching!
@abdul-kabiralegbe56602 жыл бұрын
@@commonsensesolutions6662 Yes. Infact, virtually all Toyotas have access panels apart from (some or all?) their vans and trucks. Otherwise, they expect you to drop the tank.

Excellent video! One of the best with your extra tips and details. I was wondering how to cut wide enough to expose the cross braces to screw the hatch back down on, but was trying to figure out what to do about the spot welds....drill em out! Really liked all the ideas to make it a solid installation. Since you are an electrical engineer, I finally found the right guy to ask something I have wondered for a long time. When you used that dielectric grease in the plugs, I get that it's a great idea to help keep water out. But dielectric is an insulator. Seems like putting an insulator on electrical contacts where we want good transfer of electrons with current flow between them , would not be a good thing on the contacts? I have used it sparingly on spark plug ceramics, then slid the boot down over the spark plug, smearing the grease along but trying to avoid having it get on the contacts in the plug boot or on the contact tip of the spark plug. I did that to try to impede any electrical leakge pathways out of the boots that they say sometimes can happen because spark plugs operate at such high voltage. Am I missing something about letting dielectric grease get directly on contacts? Thx
@commonsensesolutions6662 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! There are varying opinions regarding use of that type of grease on electrical contacts. My opinion is that it not only keeps out moisture but also helps keep the contacts from corroding and oxidizing. Oxidation increases contact resistance and that’s something we don’t want.

Yeah, those measurements won't work for a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ. I can see the fuel pump between the bed and the cab of the truck. I guess the vehicle manufacturers saw these videos and decided to make some changes, lol. Besides, I'd rather drive my truck onto four portable ramps to give myself plenty of ground height and drop the tank, and move it to a location that's safe to do all the work.

@e-racer4673 Жыл бұрын
Sure will, I’ve done it several times as a mechanic. But on the same token, if your vehicle is from up north, or a state that gets a lot of snow and salt on the roads, your bolts corrode like crazy, and I have had straps break and twist because of the rust had eaten it up so bad bolts break off when you take the tank off Also bolts would break off in the bed when you were trying to take the bed off and it would be just a whole lot more trouble to do it that way, than it would cutting a hole in the bed flooring. Don’t get me wrong I hate to cut a hole in the flooring of the bed of the truck, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
@Casey280279 ай бұрын
Completely ignorant to cut a hole in your bed. Spend the money to drop the tank.
