I almost didn’t remove the serpentine belt before I started the job. Also noticed that the reservoir for the radiator was in the way of getting the front bolt out. It would have been nice to hear you say at the beginning of starting to remove the alternator that you had already removed the serpentine and the reservoir for the radiator. I’m glad I have basic knowledge on replacing the alternator. I came here for reminders. The bushing I had forgotten about it. Good video though. That can turn on if your door is open too long with the radio on, it is just saying your battery is being drained and you need to be cautious, or you will have a dead battery. Thanks for watching David! Stay tuned for more DIY Auto repairs episodes here on the channel!

Sadly no, if you have the know how to rebuild a compressor sure, but for the rest of use that do not know how to rebuild a compressor, no there is not a way unless you purchase a new one.

btw guys u dont have to b at 3k rpm to charge a vehicle, iv never even heard about that in class in any specific models or manufacturers so u dont have to worry about ur engine bein revved above that to charge
@Sellthoseflippingcars4 жыл бұрын
You are correct Travis, an alternator starts charging the battery at idle. But voltage fluctuates from the alternator depending on the rpm of the engine. But we also know at idle your alternator has a low voltage output that is recharging the battery. At a higher rpm the voltage output increases and is able to correctly recharge the battery. That is why when you are doing an alternator test when a OBD2 diagnostics reader you are needed to put the vehicle at 2000 rpm to correctly test the charging system.
@timelady_19944 жыл бұрын
How do you know if the battery or alternator?
@Sellthoseflippingcars4 жыл бұрын
I use my code reader which has a battery and alternator test function. That is the easiest way, but if you do not have that then you can use a load tester on your battery and a multimeter on your alternator. If the vehicle died while driving and wouldn't start again it is the alternator. If the vehicle drove fine with no dimming lights and radio was working great, then the vehicle would not restart then it is your battery. Remember a battery only has 2 to 3 year lifespan. Thanks for watching!
@4dirt2racer04 жыл бұрын
u literally can not tell sometimes, they can have the exact same symptoms with no way to isolate them, u can simply stop by any autoparts store n they test ur battery and even charging system for free, i do it jus to randomly know how everythings doin, it gives u all kinds of useful info to work with i can disconnect the battery take the alternator out and my truck would still run lol its a clutch diesel with mechanical fuel pump, so park on a hill so u can pop start it, like many of us have lol n ur set i love diesels
@CrashCarson143 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can be hard to tell. It’s not good either when a bad alternator can kill a battery so it’s easy to just throw a new battery in, if it’s old it would be easy to assume that. I had a bad starter once and I almost had it diagnosed as a bad alternator/battery. Had to get a new battery either way also. But starter was simple enough to replace.

I just stopped by to say you should save all of the knuckle busting this will ruin your project stuff until the end of the video like you did with the alternator pin so people are totally hosed if they don't. Or hide it someplace in the video different every time.

@@Sellthoseflippingcars Sorry that wasn't very clear of me. At the end of the video you give a pointer out on adjusting the bracket guide pin so you can reinstall the next alternator. I was trying to say, that's a great audience retention technique. Thanks for the vid, I used it to rescue a 2003 Taurus in Minneapolis last weekend. Drove 3 hours, 45 minute fix.
