Even his side tricep and abs and thigh pose didn't look bad at this one. People sleep on how he didn't just get huge but actually improved his proportions over the previous three years. He truly is the king.
@TheLusianPopa Жыл бұрын
@@stevegeorge6880 you have to be KIDDING me his symmetry and proportions very evidently went DOWNHILL when he ballooned in the 280l lb range most of the "SIZE' he gained was concentrated in his GUT, GLUTES nd quads arms, calves, pecs stayed the same size he became quite bottom heavy and blocky when he got superheavy his frame was failry large but not very large, aka he was NEVER meant to compete at 280+ lb like say Nasser And hsi condition, although good in the glutes/hams is still miles behind his 98 version, let alone a prime time Yates ppl dont want to face facts, but in 03 he simply played the size game( he HIMSELF admitted only dieting 9 weeks-instead of the usual 12 weeks) and got away with it because he was up against an OFF line-up=Cutler nowhere near his best, Gunther nowhere near as good as the year prior, Levrone small and legless... he dominated a off lineup PERIOD END OF STORY

@@TheLusianPopa you'll notice that I said he improved his proportions over the previous three years. That would be 2000, 2001, and 2002. Yes, you can find bad pictures from this show, but you can also find some pretty darn decent ones. There's a reason people's minds were absolutely blown when they saw him on stage and reported on his performance at the time in much the same way Yates' performance in 1993 was reported on. I was a regular subscriber to flex magazine and muscular development at the time. Ronnie had looked absolutely awful in 2002, and the word going into 2003 from him and his coach was that they were going to try to show up at around 275 lb. This seemed like the dumbest thing ever given that the most obvious problem was his gut, and they were talking about being bigger than ever. Well, he was bigger than ever but also managed to keep the midsection in relative check. If memory serves, the write-up in flex said that he would never be mistaken for Frank Zane but it was still admirable for the amount of size that he carried. And at the time, it looked absolutely impossible for anyone to even carry that much muscle on their frame. So, yes, there are legitimate critiques as far as proportion and condition that can be made relative to the best ever including his own in 1998 and 1999, but it was and is still an awesome showing.

@@stevegeorge6880 I dont see how he improved on his earlier 2000s looks. He just got bigger but his basic proportions stayed the same. You nailed it, ppl were freaked out because he looked like CRAP previous 3 mr Os...they were comparing him to those versions.In the same manner ppl saying Cutler was godlike in 2009, but only because they were comparing him to the soft off 2007-2008 versions. He was much heavier than before. I think ppl tend to overrated his size in 2003...you have to learn to look past the bodyweight. Sure if you just look at what the scale indicates he made a giant leap forward in muscularity. But when you look closely you notice most of the size gained was in the WRONG PLACES-Quads-where he didnt need more size after 99 imo, glutes, midsection.... His back got thicker but lost a ton of detail. His arms or calves or pecs were identical in size with his 98-99 versions. And let us not forget Nasser was 285 lb at the same height in 96....and he did have very similar level of conditioning-go check his 96 german gp where he had shredded hams/glutes and striated pecs etc...his back was soft beause of genetics. So this was hardly unheard of size. And one has to factor in that his conditioning was hardly great-his glutes/.hams were always detailed , just because he had them in 2003 doesnt mean he was "in condition"..his quads, back lost detail. I would say his 2003 condition is very similar if not identical to 2000.And in 2000 EVERYONE said he was off..Funnily enough in 2000 he was 263-64 lb. Four months later at the 2001 AC he achieved proly his best condition ever, and he was 247 lb....He dropped 16-17 lb to get really dry and hard. What happens if you chop off the same 17 lb off the 2003 phisique? he is 270 lb Dorian Yates was 264 in the German GP in a crazy conditoin. So people tend to grossly overestimate the size difference between the 2. Yes Ron was much heavier, because he was holding 15 lb of water and intramuscular body fat... Ronnie sacrificed condition for size in the 2000s because his competition changed in the space of 1-2 years. IN 98-2000 he was battling Wheeler, Levrone and Ray... 2001 Jay arrived and 2002 Gunther came in hard. Plus you had other freaks like Ruhl or Dennis James... In a way the 2003 Coleman wasnt that huge of a leap forward. In 93 Yates did bring unprecedented size but also mindblowing conditioning. In 2003 Ronnie upped the ante on size but was hardly granite hard or dehydrated. This is why i laugh when some say it was something never seen before..

Ronnie doesn't look as spectacular here but you could still tell he was clearly the best by a lot. Gunter also looked really good and I would have had him in 4th instead of Denis James. Kevin and Dexter also looked pretty good but they didn't stand out as much in this linup. Jay also looked good and compared well with Ronnie but I think he needed to be a bit more ripped. If I were judging I would have called it this way. 1st Ronnie Coleman 2nd Jay Cutler 3rd Dexter Jackson 4th Gunter 5th Denis James 6th Kevin Levrone

@@mattspencer6154 in shape? relative to his 98 condition in 2003 he was OFF. Not nearly as hard, dry, separated etc. He just had good muscle tie ins and separations but he is not great condition here. His muscularity was off the charts, his condition was OK and his symmetry was CRAP-way worse than in 98 when he still had a tiny waist, balance etc so of the 3 judging criteria 03 is really his best in one, losing the other 2 flat out to his lighter versions

Nah we have divisions like men’s physique and classic for asthetics. As long as the gut isn’t overly distended then it’s fine. Men’s open is a muscle competition, not an asthetic one

There is no directions or looks in Bodybuilding. The biggest and most ripped guy will always win the majority of the time. Mass + Conditioning is what Bodybuilding has always been mainly about and what it will more than likely continue to be.
