I remember this even though I was seven years old. The nostalgia of hearing the C5's iconic screeching engines as it passed overhead. It was the greatest air show held at Stewart. It wasn't like the airshows held there today. This is something I will never forget.

Adam Antoci I used to live in housing from 85-00 and I remember the one air show I went to I was prob no older then you when you went. And it was amazing. It was like 87-88 or something like that. I would like to take my wife and kids there to see it and relive some memories

The C-5M have come a long way since the A model which was nice, except for the crack in one wing. That was corrected when all the fleet was sent back to the factory and they was strengthened and that problem with the one airplane from Travis AFB was fixed as well. I never flew on the M model, but loved flying on both the A, and B models.

My pop was tool and die maker on on the C5a and I saw it in several stages as a child. 400000 rivet holes with epoxy on each one. I got so sick using that epoxy glue on a Cub Scout project I had to go to the hospital. Talk about sniffing glue!

I just LOVE the whine of those powerful engines. This was i believe before they updated them to a "quieter engine" because of noise pollution. However, prior to that "quieter upgrade" you just always knew what was flying overhead. That's how much respect this aircraft commands.

I live near A.P.G. one of these beasts buzzed my house while I was mowing the grass, and not only did I hear it over my lawn mower, I actually felt the ground shake. I thought the world was about to end untill I looked up and seen It was a C-5. It was an awsome thing to behold. :D

I used to watch these things at Altus all the time. I could have seen them all day everyday, but I still stopped and watched them and the 141s. Oddly, I never once saw one haul ass like that. That would have been sweet.

The AMAZING sound of the GE engines is enough to scare me into believing that this is the most powerful cargo plane the U.S. has ever had. I first heard the C5 with Rolls-Royce engines, and that was enough to put me into paroxysms after watching the C5-A take off from Lunken Airport in Cincinnati in the early 70's, after a flawless air show. Scary BIG!!!

The first flight of the C-5 Galaxy was on 6/30/1968. The first flight of the Boeing 747 was on 2/9/1969, & the first flight of the Antonov 124( the "Russian cargo plane") was on 12/26/1982. The C-5 is the original jumbo jet, & was powered by GE TF-39s, the very first high bypass turbofan engine (turbofan engines power most of today's aircraft, including the Antonov 124). If it weren't for the C-5, the AN-124 & a lot of other aircraft wouldn't have come to be. Do some research before assuming.

Damn flying the C-5 in Flight Simulator X is not as easy at these guys make it look. I love this aircraft, have a Gemini Jets hi quality 1:400 scale in my die cast hangar and of course, the Galaxy in my FSX hangar. I grew up near Lockheed, Marietta, GA
