Totally agree and currently working towards importing my first RHD JDM vehicle within the next couple of years! Waiting till the 25 yr rule moves up from the 90's as well as something NOT-so hyped (and pricey) like the series 80 Land Cruiser or Delica, both amazing vehicles but out of my price range, especially for first time starting out!

agreed. One year a Nissan dealership salesperson in Halifax told me the Quest was being discontinued, so no more Nissan vans. Either he was lying or he didn't know about the Nissan vehicles in Japan. Probably the latter.

Love the Elgrand, also wish it had been exported to NA. Also, only 100k on a 15 year old vehicle - gotta love the used Japanese auto market.

I guess that was a mistake when you said FWD as these are definitely RWD if not AWD! As my dad has one which is definitely RWD

It is. This generation of the Elgrand was built on a modified version of the rear-drive FM platform (ex. Skyline V35).

Yes. But the nice thing is it´s not mid-ship but it sits on the FM-plattform which means technically this minivan is a 370Z with 7 or 8 seats!

Yikes! I get it some people think Japanese/import/RHD cars are cool and exotic in their LHD markets but this is a mini van it's scary to think someone in Canada might drive their family around in this. I'm referring to the safety concerns of driving a RHD vehicle in LHD markets where they drive on the right.

One thing annoying with rhd is passing other cars. Just dont do it often.

I've driven both. Left or right wheel. Here in US, and over in around Tokyo / Fuji. It's odd at first but you get use to it fast.
@logicalnerd1517
@logicalnerd1517 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not talking about just getting use to it, but the some specific driving situations where driving a RHD vehicle on the right side of the road in a market full of LHD cars can be exponentially more dangerous. More specifically 1) passing when you have to use the on-coming traffic lane and 2) left hand turns through on-coming traffic. When waiting for a opening to do a left turn through on-coming traffic sometimes even I don't like my visibility sitting on the left (especially if there are on-coming cars also wanting to do a left turn) I couldn't imagine what it must be like sitting on the right. That's why in my original comment I'm quite shocked if there's an JDM/RHD enthusiast who'd be willing to put their family at unnecessary risk driving them around in a RHD mini van just for kicks and giggles when lets be honest their family would be safer in a LHD vehicle if they drive on the right in their country. It would be quite tragic as passing into on-coming traffic and turning into on-coming traffic are usually very unforgiving accidents if it happens.

Having owned 4 rhd vehicles with 2 children onboard, your concerns are easily overcome. You can’t see? Then you don’t pass/turn. As simple as that. To try and insinuate that this vehicle is somehow not safe to transport children in is false and misleading.
