Excellent video. I inherited a 2000 GTX/RFI that I’ve brought back to life . I want to redo the oil system and your video will help a lot. You scared me about the oil type though. I’m running Lucas synthetic blend two-stroke oil. It has survived 6 outings with a teenager but I’ll change out the oil when I can. Good luck with the ski

Sea-Doo is very specific with their oil requirements. A lot of people don’t follow them because they simply don’t know. Main reason for engine failures on jet skis. TCW3 is generally a no-no.

If the carb kits aren’t OEM it’s guaranteed to fail. Just learned my lesson after buying 3 kits at $100 a piece. Same exact scenario on my 2000 GTX DI !!!!!!

This engine is fuel injected, no carbs. Good tip though and I agree with you. Use genuine Mikuni rebuild kits.

Great video! I haven't put all my rebuild on my page yet....dealing with the exact same thing with a 2005 GTI/RFI. Just did a rebuild, works fantastic on the hose. Mine will hit top speed once and then die. If I can get it started in the water, it will not reach top speed. I do have a Candoo pro and I was able to reset my TPS to zero and that helped, but didn't correct it fully. I am also chasing an open ground from the starter solenoid. The 10-amp fuse on the starter solenoid wire keeps popping after starting in the water. These RFI engines are absolutely frustrating to deal with!! If I resolve my issue, I'll let you know too!!

Yes, they can certainly be a pain. I haven’t figured mine out yet but also haven’t really messed with it. I need to pull the rotary cover and check the valve timing and then pick up a Candoopro. Let me know what you come up with. Thanks for your comment.

Just bought a 2003 rfi skidont with 120hrs from a guy saying it was ready for the water no issues. First time out started hard in the water ran for 30 secs and then bogged out died wouldn't start in the water but started after I pulled it out. Sell it for what I paid which is $1200 for 30 secs of fun

Hey man!! Love the vids always watch as soon as they come out, lots to learn across the board. I’m currently working on a 95 Kawasaki 750ss jetski and it’s doing the same thing this video ended with. (Runs great on trailer and dies even on a garden hose) Been patiently waiting for part 2 but thought I’d comment and ask if you’ve found the solution?? Maybe my issue is similar. Thanks man!

I haven’t figured out the issue with this ski but it is probably in the ecu having to do with the fuel injection. You probably have a carb issue. How is the compression?

@@restoroosterohvtruly appreciate the help and response. I just fully rebuild the carburetor was pretty confident in doing so, took apart every single part I could and cleaned it all. (I have a good amount of experience) Fires right up and runs great, revs up smooth then introduce water from a garden hose and it will slowly start running rough and continue to get worse until it stalls out. If you blip the throttle before it dies out it acts like it clears out the system then it will restart its bogging down pattern. Hopefully that makes sense, trying not to write you a book haha. Compression on each cylinder is 155/157. My initial thought is a cracked water jacket or bad gasket allowing water to get where it’s not supposed to be. I just pulled exhaust system apart and there is signs of some water/moisture in the exhaust manifold.

​@@BladeKnierim Have you put it in the water and see how it runs? Maybe the hose is filling the exhaust/engine faster than the engine can blow it out at idle. Mine runs fine all day on the hose but not IN the water.

@@restoroosterohv the owner had it in the water and had the same issue I’m having on a garden hose. That’s when he had brought it to me, even cruising across water it will bog out and die. If or when I figure it out I will let you/everyone know what my issue was. He has bypassed the oil pump and mix’s the gas, I told him I didn’t recommend that and I have wondered it it’s not running strong because of that?

I wouldn’t worry about the premix as long as the pump has been properly blocked off and mixed to 40:1 or so. I would be sure to use the API-TC 2 cycle oil. Did you set the pop-off properly in the carbs?

Wheres the follow up? What was the issue? wondering if it was the computer or key, I know if I put the wrong key on some of my toys( ski doo / seadoo) they dont like to rev up, but will start. there might also be another valve on the exhaust, not sure if you have looked at that.

I know I know. I just haven’t been motivated to dig back into it. I believe it has something to do with the rotary valve or its timing. I got the ski with the information that it ran fine until it ingested water and seized. The only difference is this “rebuilt” motor I put in and the symptoms point in that direction. I got one for you shall I say it . KING QUAD 750 I bought it from a friend payed tooo much like the compression in its single cylinder put a new starter on it and fixed the pull rope with new battery and I hit the starter and pulled on the rope as hard as I could but just ripped my arm half off. I guess I'm getting old, in my younger day I at least would have broken the rope. LOL When I bought it cranked it rode it lots of power the second time it got tight and died. what ya think? yes.. I think there is a pressure release not working.it slowly got worse just not much information about that compression release

@kevincresswell5272 what year is it? The auto-decompression is built into the exhaust camshaft and is not serviceable on its own. If you pull the valve cover and look in the center of the exhaust cam, make sure that the weight assy moves freely and returns to closed when released.

The condenser has little to do with spark, it stores energy for the fuel pump. There are far too many things that could cause you to not have spark, but I would start with measuring the resistance of the coil and crank sensor.
