Great to see an independent taking on a door trim and lock - most others would just say, 'Nah, main dealer only, mate'. Just shows it pays to look for guys like this.

Thanks to this video i didnt even need to do any of this. Locked and unlocked the door several times while banging where the lock is with my fist, Voila opened. Cleaned and oiled the lock from the outside, working fine. Great in depth instruction cheers

Great Video man .. really life saviour .. my friend lend me her car for few days and I though it would be nice to fix her jammed door (for more than 1.5 year) and thanks to you for this awesome video .. it happened exactly as you mentioned .. one tiny remark about video length .. maybe it was a bit long .. but it was very fine with me.. Thanks again.

Brilliant - tackling this tomorrow! Didn't hear you swear once! Think it'll be different in my garage! Of course the regulator / lock assembly is fine when you are putting it together in the factory - not so clever when things go wrong in the REAL world?!

I have allways used right size mandrel/ punch(sorry! i dont know correct name for the tool), but as its harder on the frame and class, i deffently try this next time! THX! ps. if you have Scantool for that car i would bet it had failed on, "Safelock" "ON" and so it wouldnt open even from the inside. Read the manual for more info on Safelock, So you dont lock your famely in on hot day!

Thanks a lot for the excellent video! I do have the Haynes book so I guess I could have managed without, but nothing beats actually seeing someone do the job step-by-step. I wasn't quite as lucky as you, though. I did try the banging method, instinctively at first (that's what you get from growing up with black & white TVs) and then with a little more force, but no luck. The lock was just completely dead. So, once I got the door stripped and ascertained that this wasn't a power supply issue I thought what the hell, the lock needs to go anyway, so let's take the banging trick one step further. So, I pretty much doused the thing in CRC, took a punch and hammer and, working inside the door, gave it a few healthy bangs. And lo and behold, the lock did start to show some signs of life again. Only it wasn't the satisfying "clank" as heard from the other locks, but more like a weak, pained screech. So, I re-doused it with CRC and let it sit overnight, hoping that the stuff would seep through the mechanism, at least a little bit. Next morning, still no joy. I already had the grinder ready at hand, but then thought, let's give it just one more try. I used a longer and sharper punch and a bigger hammer for some "precision bombing" and hit the lock 3 more times, trying to disturb it as close to the actual mechanism as possible. When next operating the fob I suddenly heard a very weak imitation of the motor working - like a dying man's last gasp - immediately pulled on the wire, and the door opened! Hurrah! So, folks, here's a little bit of friendly advice. If your Skoda (or VW, Seat, whatever) lock starts acting up in any way, DON'T LET THAT DOOR RE-LOCK UNTIL YOU CHECK IT OR HAVE IT LOOKED AT. Don't "wait til next week when you have time for this", like I did. Don't rely on the banging method alone; there's no guarantee you'll ever get that door open again. Remove the latch ring from the door frame, or somehow prevent the lock from engaging it. Tie the door shut with a length of rope, or spot-weld it shut, do whatever needs to be done, just *don't let it lock again*. Changing the lock is a major pain in the butt, not to mention when you can't even get the door open (if you're not in good physical condition you can forget about it right away), and I shudder at the thought of having to actually use a grinder in the narrow spaces inside the door. Once again, thanks for the video :)

It didn't fix itself. Had the same problem with my Octavia, took the door panel off and exactly the same, it fixed itself. Put it back together and it lasted a week. Took the panel off and it fixed itself again !! Looked at the metal wire that goes along the door to the pop up button and the wiring loom was just touching it, when you put the door panel back there is enough pressure to stop the lock from working. Slight adjustment. Sorted

Problem is these locks have an array of microswitches inside - two for detecting the door open/closed and another two for the door locked/unlocked position, as far as I can remember. These switches tend to wear out or stick over time and they won't report the actual door status to the convenience control unit. Mostly there is no way around replacing the door lock unit, unfortunately.
