I have taken my suspension apart so many times trying to hunt down an annoying knock and creak. The GTO suspension is very easy to work with. Just make sure if anything is rusted, be ready to attack it in some way. Good video, very informative and great to see others do the work rather than myself. Also, an impact will loosen that top strut bolt without an issue.

I did this job last year on my '05 w/44k miles on it. Did a Willwood brake upgrade all the way around as well. Thanks for posting.

I did this job with about the exact same parts about a year ago. And boy it’s really really stiff lol. My car hurts to drive now!!! But handles better than ever.

You forgot to replace the Front Sway bar and Steering Rack Bushing. That’s what I really need to see done ✅ to have the complete front suspension finished. But it’s still very informative when I finally get to do mines.

Ah, very true! I will have to cover that in the steering video!

Not yet, but I intend to! I don't own the replacement part yet, so it won't be any time soon, unfortunately.

I'm up to 0:35 and I'm looking at that nut. In the video, it appears to be a normal hex nut. What am I not seeing here?
@CarsSimplified
@CarsSimplified 5 жыл бұрын
The nut or the hex head on the top? The nut is fairly normal, but the smaller hex head gave me all kinds of trouble size-wise. It seems like it was supposed to be 10mm, but got swollen. I tried 11mm and the SAE equivalent sizes, and none of them fit. Either too small or started stripping the head.

@@CarsSimplified Got it. The socket you used was an outside Torx or something else? Didn't catch what that was, but it really bit into that nut.

if you have access to an impact they come off easy. @@alext9067

I suspected it could, but had no way of confirming. I was also not sure if wear on the strut would allow the shaft to spin too freely for that to work. Good to know!

The socket I used was a spline drive. It looks like it could grab on to a 12-tooth gear.

Hey how did you tighten the ball joint but without it turning with the nut
@CarsSimplified
@CarsSimplified 5 жыл бұрын
When I did that with a new control arm and ball joint, it just held itself still. You can push the ball joint stud against the steering knuckle, but if it's giving you a lot of trouble, you probably need a new ball joint.

It’s probably in the video so I promise to watch later but bolts did you reuse and or is there kits for hardware Never mind was able to see enough of the Video to see you got new hardware with the struts

Did you intend to, but perhaps forget to paste links to the parts used? The Struts led me to believe all of these parts were purchased from pedders? What are your impressions of the changed springs and ball-joint mount type?
@CarsSimplified
@CarsSimplified 5 жыл бұрын
I'll add the links soon; most are Pedders, but not all. I have driven very little on the new suspension so far, but first impressions were that they were very stiff, incredibly responsive, and not as rough a ride as I was expecting. The sway bar links I will have to really throw the car into a corner to get a feel for.

@CarsSimplified

73,000 but it was long overdue for some of those parts. I've owned it since about 52,000 and it needed the strut bushing the whole time.

Also EVERYTHING you did in this was all done with just those tools right?? Afterward doing an alignment? Don’t need any sort of ball joint press or anything?
