Just want to add that the brake lines shouldn’t be stretched out like that for a long time, use a bungee cord to support it/hang it.

Just remove the 3 ball joint nuts and bolt to get enough movement to pull the cv axel out. You don't have to remove the stut bolts. This way you won't need an alignment.

That is another way to tackle this 👍. No alignment is needed after removing the lower strut bolts as they can only go back in one way, there is no adjustment. Same as the ball joint bolts.

I should add for other viewers that there’s a good chance in the Northeast that your speed sensor bolts are completely seized and you might have to get out a tap and die set for a bolt replacement. I had one side that miraculously came out but the other side was completely stripped from another mechanic’s attempt. Things like this can sink another few days if you have to get additional parts. If there’s another way to replace the CV axle without removing those speed sensors, you might want to consider it.

Great video! I'm told some aftermarket axles DON'T have the gimbal bearings that an OEM axles has and instead have "slug" bearings. Your new one doesn't look like it has the gimbal bearings. Do you know if the Cardone aftermarket brand would have the gimbal bearings - or which ones would? Thanks!

I'm not sure what manufacturers use for their bearings. These are from the local parts store and they hold up really well.

@@Workingcockers Falken Rubitrek 235 70R 16. Look and perform great. Supposedly the biggest tires the kit will tolerate. Haven't driven it much yet due to some personal circumstances; hope to get it out more in the coming year. Mine's also a 2006, but not 4WD. Just got a 2010 4WD and am considering doing that one as well.

Hey thanks Tai. Changing the transmission seal is up to you. It's not always needed. If it's leaking before then definitely take the opportunity while the axle is out. On this vehicle the seal had already been replaced recently so it wasn't needed this time.

It never hurts to get an alignment but it's not necessary. Some manufacturers use an adjustable strut bolt but Toyota does not on these so as long as you are using the same strut it should all go back together with the same alignment.

The bolts holding my tie rods down wont come undont so i cant get the room i need to use my axel remover and handle arm so i have no clue what to do

Remove your brake caliper and suspend it from your strut spring to keep it out of the way. Remove the lower ball joint. There are three bolts holding it on. You can turn the steering wheel all the way in one direction and see if that's enough room. If you need more room remove the two lower strut bolts holding it on to the knuckle. Now the knuckle should be free to pivot out of the way even more.

No alignment needed. The strut bolts are non adjustable so it goes back in the same spot it came off 👍

I wish the passenger side is easy as the driver side but it's not. The axle is longer with more sections. It's more scary on that side.

You should not lose much fluid if any. You can put a catch pan under it just in case and check the fluid when finished. But draining the fluid before hand isn't necessary 👍
