Just a thought for Guitar of the Day, watching the recent Joe Bonamsssa video in which he uses a Squier Strat from Norms. I wonder if we could have a few cheaper alternatives feature on the channel. I think Brendan used to do an affordable GOTD and I would very much like to see a return of that. I love looking at all the guitars featured on GOTD, but Vintage guitars demand high prices that a lot of us will never be able to afford. As I say just a thought….love the show anyway :)

I love my 137. I got to try out about 25, 137’s and 335’s and mine was just acoustically awesome and surprisingly well made considering the QC issues the were having at the time. I put some low-wound Lollar Imperials since the guitar is naturally dark and the pickups work so well with it.

I sold these when I worked at Wray Music in Lemoyne Pa. I was TOTALLY a Les Paul guy (mostly still am) and I hadnt really embraced semi hollows. My cost was STUPID! A couple co workers picked them up. I didnt. Wish I did. Great guitar. I sold them in this era 2004

I am playing the same model since thirteen years. I always like to describe it as "the best Les Paul 😊 I ever owned".
@Benmendoza14 ай бұрын
Thanks! I own an identical model, same year. It's like a cross between the Les Paul (Pickups), ES175 (shape), and the ES335((center block) and can cover the range these instruments are known for. I found it sounds best when plugged into #2 input of any Fender Black Face amp. If you use pedals, it loves them too. The bridge pickup has enough output to overdrive a tube amp when plugged straight in, for that vintage sound. It can also do blues, or jazz really well, and if you add a Bigsby, it could be a great surf guitar as well.

I had the blue 137. Nice guitar. Wish I still had that one.

I had the good fortune of borrowing one like yours(blue) and is fantastic guitar. Compared it to my LP standard with same pickups and preferred the 137. A slight bit more mid/upper mid which tamed the bassiness down Compared to the LP

I had a natural ES-137 with birdseye. Prettiest Gibson I ever saw. In perfect condition. I regret ever selling it. '57 humbuckers I think. And it had the satin inside case cover. These guitars never made the big time, sadly. Loved the florentine shape too like the Byrdland.🥲🥲

Once again, a great video. But I'm going to renew my. Request for different brands. You know, Guild wreck, Dean Armstrong, I mean, Nothing weird like a coral electrick sitar. Or even the silver tone. Just a mainstream brand you know a rickenbacker.

Norm, someone asked me a question today I couldn't answer. The question was: what do the same pickups sound like on a different body configuration? Could you demonstrate? Thanks.
@JAZZMANICK23 күн бұрын
I am going to tell you my opinion but it is only for the gibson guitars with the PAF pickups .I was lucky to own at my18yo a custom black beauty made in 1978 ,,,then at my 25 as a professional in cruizers I also had a 335 (the simple model ) and when I was 32 in 1992 I bought a hollow body called ES 775 .Then in 2002 I traded my les paul custom from 1978 forthe ES 137-P with ceramic pickups ...And now in 2022 (I was 62 ) I have an L5 from 1979 with PAFs ... My answer also will be for the clean sounds only -...the Les PAULCUSTOM the 335 and the 775 all had the same tone qualities .That was a round sweet and mellow clean tone in the neck pickup that no other guitar can make .THE DIFFERENCE was that the es775 had a FAT sound at low volumes so it was the guitar for small clubs when you want a classic jazz tone .The es 335 was getting this fat jazz tone at highter volumes so it was suitable for jazz or blues gigs even rock music in larger stages and finally the smal Les Paul Custom could play at very hight volumes without getting so bassy ...Of cource telecasters and strats due to their lower output pickups and the different woods and shape are more practical for loud situations or for an all around hotel job guitar ...The emptier the sound is in low volumes gives less unwanted bass in loud situations ... So as a conclusion for body shapes with same PAFpickups I can say 1/big hollow bodies = jazz guitars use only 2/ Semihollows = jazz ,blues ,rock ,soul ,disco ,country ,pop 3 / solid bodies = rock ,funk , soul ,pop ,country ... This is a clip here that you may notice these differences in the tone back from 2010 ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2WogqSfm76qoLs
